It's a personal decision I think. Imo, buying/driving a depreciating asset is the "real loss", whether you pay cash or finance it, still ends up being a loss. I prefer to pay things off(quickly), and not have any payments, but it's not for everyone....

    I got 3.75% through a Canadian bank.
I actually financed through Toyota but when I went to take delivery their financing guy said he got me a better rate through TD Bank so went that route.
    I'm not complaining haha.

some people are debt adverse. some people have no problem taking on debt and prefer the banks to make money off borrowing from them. at the end of the day, you're paying for a vehicle aka your depreciating asset.

Kind of silly to pay cash when the interest rates are so low, but I did as I hate getting bills to pay.

You have months like that so you decide to blow a chunk of your savings/retirement on a new truck? Sounds like sound advice :notsure:

I paid cash. I liked it so much I bought two, One I can play with and the other I can keep covered in my garage for resale in about 10 years.

My monthly income is all over the place - did not want to make payments - paid cash. (no I'm not a drug dealer)

Now if you work for someone else - get a regular paycheck each week then payments may be best - until you get laid off.

See it works on small purchases, geez I had such buyers remorse after purchasing the truck. Now I've grown to love it..

I'll probably be like that for life.

I financed my 2016 Tacoma... but the trades it in for a 2017 Tacoma and just paid for the 17 outright... there was no logic behind the decision I just had the cash so I figured I'd just pay it off and not have to pay interest

Yep. 1.3% interest rate on the truck was essentially free money. Pretty easy to either make more in low risk investments or save on interest in higher rate loans (home loan) by paying down principle.

Good job. For folks who have the discipline to not spend money they don't have, it's a no-brainer to take advantage of these cash-back offers.

I was filing my 2016 statements into secondary storage in the basement. Loved the end-of-year summaries across different cards listing 2016 fees and interest paid = $0.00 :D

Granted, not everyone can forego spending more than they earn. In those cases, the Dave Ramsey "cash only" extreme position can make sense.
