ATF change???

Hey guys! Its about time for me do my ATF, and was wanting to know whats the best Fluid to use?
~should I go with a synthetic or not?
~Should I get a total Tranny Flush done or just a drain and fill?
It has been serviced every 20-30K. And it just past 20K and I want to change it bc its been shifting kinda hard lately....

If it were me.....

I'd have a flush done and put MObile 1 synthetic ATF.

Drain and fill will do. Use Toyota type T-IV ATF or equivalent. If you've never serviced the tranny before and have over 100k miles, don't do a flush.

 

Just change the filter and fluid, use Mobil 1 ATF, good to go.

 

prolly a good idea to stick to the toyota t4 transmission fluid. when i did mine back year before last.....it took right about 5 quarts...but i dropped the pan and cleaned the filter screen. im about to go change mine(drain and fill this time) again here shortly.

 

Well If its a good Idea to get a flush done? I will go to my local Quick Lube bc they do good work and treat my truck with respect. Oh... And do you think its a good idea to switch to synthetic?

A flush is an absolutely good idea - AVOID getting it done at a quick lube place. I can't stress that enough.

There's a reason why they're called *Quick Lube*places. They're quick.... and lack the special care needed to make sure the job is done correctly!!!!!!

So unless you're totally familiar with the process and will DOUBLE CHECK everything they've done with a fine toothed comb - AVOID the quick lube places!!!

Im not sure I want to get a Flush done bc of all the problems Ive read about after it was done. I was thinking to just change the fluid like every oil change until I basicaly I have 99% synthetic. Is that a good way about doing the switch?

 

In some cases....for those people who had problems with a tranny flush...is probably because their transmission hasn't had maintenance in long time. The flush removes & dislodges buildup that's been in there for far too long.

Automatic transmissions have filters in them that should be changed.

 

I was told by dealer my 03 didn't have a true filter,they power flush,and re-fill only with T IV fluid.

Is there a syn fluid for 03;s?

 

I heard its not really a filter, but more a debri(spelling) catcher...
So where would be a good place to go to get my tranny serviced? beside the quick lube, and dealer...

 

yeah.....its more of a screen than anything.

diy man........just do a drain and refill. did mine yesterday....took 3 quarts. drained it when it was hot, filled when it was cold.

 

Cool, yeah thats what I was thinking about doing. But I also would like to switch to synthetic bc of my shifting under load has gotten harder... what do you think? good idea? If I do, what brand should I go with? Thanks!

 

amsoil has some atf that they "claim" is compatible with our transmissions.......but honestly, i'd stick with toyota's t4....and maybe get your tranny flushed.........or change your transmission fluid in 3 week intervals about 4 times....you'll basically have all new fluid in there.

no prob man. btw....buy a case of the t4 at the dealership.....its cheaper that way instead of just buying it by the quart.

 

I think Im ganna switch to the M1 synthetic and give it a shoot... Seems it does pretty good, and I would like to see if it helps my shifting.
