Ok cool. I'll keep that in mind if I decided to do a 9" later down the road. Thanks for the reply bud.

The 9" is actually one of the easiest to set up, along with some 14 bolts. The whole pinion carrier bolts in and shimming is done under that carrier so no pressing is needed to change pinion depth. I just haven't worked in a "jeep" shop in about 15 years.

Nah, ford diffs are easy as shit compared to ours. Just has nuts on the ends basically to set BL.

The benefit to the 9'' Ray is strength. that is it. It is a well tested diff and strong as hell.

The tundra axle is great, but it not being even a half full float you could hit the edge of its strength pretty quickly. Granted, the 14'' of front travel could keep you from that..

That said, FROF sells a floater kit for the tundra axle and hubs for disc brakes.

I personally think i'll go the 9'' route or LC diff route, but building an axle like that is very expensive, 3-7 grand alone...

So the tundra axle has it's perks and is why i will be using mine for a while as well.

I hear yeah but I have to really consider price. Of course I wish I would like to do it once and call it a day. With a fab'd housing and 9" but I need to cut some cost just because of dual shocks in the rear I need to purchase for the links. So I'll run my 8.4 for now or until it blows up. Thanks for your input and mentioning the floater kit. I didn't know there was one. More homework :D

So are you going with a light bar between the new tube addition?

I just read through it. Sounds pretty cool. I would have to call them and get details to see what all parts come with the kit for the price they are charging. Since I'm starting with just a housing this would be a great upgrade.

This is the full kit, not just the floater parts. Used parts could be sourced for a cheaper final price. Consider this worst case.

These seem awesome plus if you run into trouble I guess you could theoretically make it home on 1/4 axle shafts if you have manual hubs all around and are locked in the front and rear. Considering these in the near future - hopefully another axle comes up on CL - there was a complete 84 for $500 a couple weeks ago. :)

Oh ok that looks a lot better. The one I was looking at didn't make sense. I don't think the cost would be worth it to me for my build. At least within this phase of my build.

The nice thing about that kit is it can be added at any time and can be reversed/swapped to a custom housing

Just FYI I found my housing for $250, found a 3rd with 4.63 gears and Detroit locker for $800. New axles will be $450, and brakes will be ~$150, adapter for 9" to Toyota driveline $125. Then I can sell the 3rd and axles that came with the housing, and sell my old Toyota axle. I should be ~$1500 total for the 9" even if I give those parts away cheap, not bad for geared, locked and on Toyota wheels. If you fab everything for the Tundra axle you will end up about 1" short on the driveline when you swap to 9", the yoke on the 9" is about 1" overall shorter than the Tundra 8.4", totally fixable but just so you can plan if you do go that route. I thought about fabbed housing and full float but I think switching to 9" is already a big step in strength, I should be fine

You have it backwards. The Ford 9" needs balls to go on the #BBR rig

@chenbro here's that new design I was telling you about. Don't say what it is. I just found out someone was getting one when I went by there the other day. I want that person to be able to do the reveal of it.
