lift decision

so basically ive had my 09 tacoma dbl cab short bed for awhile now ive modded a few things but always been wanting to lift it. my older brother who drives an 08 fj trail team edition got his lifted a couple months ago ome 3in. hes telling me its not worth it. He also tells me if you go to a shop and they do the install it voids the factory warranty. so right now ive been saving for a couple months and about 200 away from getting the ome kit and just wanted to come here and get ur guys input? im in georgia and allsouth charges 1300 for install and alignment which is wayy to overpriced in my opinion so if anyone would like to give some advice or somehting to help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

 

i have no experiance personally with the OME kits but they are very popular and highly recomended. people who have them like them. lifting you truck does not automatically void the warranty. my understanding of it is when something breaks toyota has to prove that the lifted parts directly caused the factory parts to break. $1300 for install and alignemet is outrageous. you should slap those people who gave you that quote. it should be less than half that.

thats way over priced. it should be more around 400 or so for the install.

Yeah I have heard nothing but good things on the OME lift. I also have a 3" lift and it didnt affect my factory warranty. My truck has been to the dealership once since it has been lifted with a TRD CAI and a flowmaster exhaust system. Although they were only swapping out my alternator. But they had nothing but compliments on how good my truck looked. But yeah, $1300 just to install a lift and get an alignment is a joke!!!! I had my lift installed for around $600 and that was for 5100's all around, 885's up front, rear AAL,s, TC UCA's, new wheels and tires balanced and mounted and finally an alignment. All the parts I brought to them of course. They just did the initial install of everything.

It won't void your factory warranty. The dealer has to prove that the modification caused the failure. Obviously they won't cover the aftermarket parts. So, for example, if your CV joints go out because of a bad angle from the lift, that expense would be on you. However, if your radiator went bad, they can't deny coverage simply because you put a lift on.

 

so now i am at another crossroad, i no most of the members here are older than i am and have had more experience with life and are probably more wise. im about to head off to college soon and am now debating whether to purchase a lift or be responsible and help my parents with paying for college so any wisdom willing to be passed?
