Hey guys, I'm planning a surf trip with a buddy of mine down to the Outer Banks and down to Wilmington NC and was trying to find some places to camp along the way. So any suggestions and past experiences at different places in the state would be super helpful! We're planning on sticking to the coast so places within 10-15 mins of the beach would be preferred. Thanks in advance gents

We parked, took the ferry to Bear Island and spent a couple days there then continued up the coast on one trip.

There are SOOOO many camping spots.

    Since you asked.....

Someone, that lives in Florida, suggested the best time to go was just as the kids went back to school, but before they limit the ferry times to Bear Island.
Now, most people, that would be fine. Not too hot, right?
I live in WNC, we are a bit cooler than the rest of the south. I don't need to go somewhere HOT, but not too hot.

1st problem was it was too hot to even have part of my WM Summerlite bag on me. Sweating all night. I like the cold.
2nd problem was it seemed to be the prime time for those little f--ers that can get through the tent netting.

And no way to protect. I must have had hundreds of bites, on the verge of feeling ill.
We caught the next ferry, after 2 nights, and 'bugged' out of there.

Will I go back? Yes, definitely. But a different time of year. Like WINTER.
It was awesome. The next campsite was a LONG ways down the beach.
The beach sand rose up quite a bit, so there was a break from the waves and off shore wind. (We could use the wind to keep the bugs away)
    I recommend it.

    Ken in NC

    Yes, a Hilleberg Nallo 2GT.

Looks like a fun little spot minus the skeeters. Thanks for the help! Definitely will try and swing by the island during the trip

Much smaller than skeeters. But, that was late September.
I'm gonna go late October next time, unless I can find a private boat to get out and back.
