Nope. Most of the lifts I have been looking at need 4 inch thick slab and use lag bolts.

Yikes... I'd want at least a 12" thickened slab.

Me too, but I like a good factor of safety. I guess if you had really dense substrate it might be OK, but I'd rather just have a footer or Mike said a 12" section under the lift posts

Was working at one of my sites in Fall River yesterday staking out some new drain culverts in the wetlands....hear some rustling behind me and turn around to see a large (maybe 3' long) fisher on top of a fallen tree about 10' behind me. I have heard them yelling in the night before, and know they are viscous animals when need be so I was immediately on edge not knowing how it would react.

I start yelling at it to scare it off - nothing happening. Just standing there watching me act like a fool, flailing my arms and making loud noises. I start to back away while watching him and he doesn't move or flinch until I grab a rock and throw it....hit him right in the side and he got pissed and scurried off. Still annoyed I didn't have my phone to take a picture.

    Oh god, Marisa Tomei...
Even in that god-awful outfit, I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers.

Fortunately, the GF was much more casual about it than that, haha!

He left us? Son of a bitch...
I knew I hadn't seen him since this fall, but I didn't realize he'd completely quit the site.

I'd be uncomfortable with any kind of weight indefinitely on a two-poster anyway. If I was storing a vehicle on a lift I'd want one of the 4-poster units.

Morning all! Sat behind a Corolla on the way in. They had one of those "This car climbed Mt. Washington" stickers on. Is that a fun thing to do? Never done it.

True. The 4 post units are a pain in the ass if you're doing any kind of suspension work. On the other hand, they move around a lot less if you have to get aggressive on a part.

Meh. You drive up a road. And then when you get to the top and park, you open the door and the wind either rips it out of your hand and slams it against the stops on the hinges, or it holds the door shut so that you have to force your way out. Nice view on a clear day, though.
I also rode up it a couple of years ago on the motorcycle and other than the wind pushing you around when you get close to the top, it's a pretty uneventful drive. Very scenic, twisty road, but part of it's dirt and it's pretty crowded during the summer, so even though there's some nice corners you can't have too much fun on a bike.

It's not the concrete I'd be concerned with, it's the state of what's underneath. A thicker slab will help distribute the loads if you have differential settlement under the slab where as a 4" slab will just crack and sink. Residential contractors aren't overly well known for doing well with compaction. I'm actually shocked that none of those links even mention the state of the earth under the slab or steel reinforcement. I do tend to be conservative but it seems like they are missing or neglecting a lot of parts of the equation. I'd think somewhere in the middle is where you'd actually want to be.

^ this right here. I am sure the garage foundation was poured on structural fill compacted to a decent density, but if they are like any other developer, they did just enough to keep the Town off their backs. I would be surprised if the fill was placed any deeper than 8" below the slab (if at all) and the native material underneath has probably been quite disturbed due to the construction process. At worst, you can just cut out where you want to place a lift and manually pour a 12" deep footing to help deal with the weight.
