I wouldn't do it without something covering the trigger as well.

I know I'll catch shit, but I don't carry my glocks "hot" unless it's in a holster and even then I usually don't.

Yep. Absolutely no reason not to carry a pistol with a round in the chamber.

Not trying to be a smartass but get a snapcap dummy round and practice chambering a round with one hand. Then imagine doing it if full adrenaline like if you were injured or being dragged out of a vehicle.

A minimalist holster could correct that for you. Basically a trigger guard made of kydex that covers the entire trigger connected to a small price of paracord or other lanyard on a belt clip. Draw your weapon and the lanyard pulls the "holster" off as you clear it from your waistband. It's a $20 add on on the clip draw site. They don't show pictures but you can google them and it's a really simple "gee whiz" design. Prevents that feeling that you'll blow a nut off with an accidental discharge.

Not arguing it's not the ideal way to carry, I just don't feel comfortable enough right now. My G19 carried outside my belt is different, but when I want to go for a walk or hike and want the minimalist kit I just like to throw the G43 or p238 in my waist or pocket and go. I rarely ever carry in public and always do out in the woods. I've seen those Kydex trigger guards on the 550 lanyard, maybe I'll look into those and start wearing more often and practice more.

Well, what truly new round has been introduced in the last 40-50 years? There's not much that wasn't wildcatted prior to WWII. Powder however has changed the game considerably. If Newton had 4831, many of the cartridges we have today would never have come to market. Almost every cartridge we have now traces itself to a cartridge designed over 100 years ago.

.17 WSM? It's based on nail gun cartridges, although it could be argued those are based on earlier rimfire designs.

Yeah. I would be interested to know the history of that case. Rimfires used to be a lot more common in many calibers. I doubt someone designed a brand new rimfire case just for a nail gun, but who knows.

    There goes that theory.

"Powder-actuated technology was developed for commercial use during the Second World War, when high velocity fastening systems were used to temporarily repair damage to ships. In the case of hull breach, these tools fastened steel plates over damaged areas.[1] These tools were developed by Mine Safety Appliances, for the United States Navy.[2] Powder-actuated tools were investigated and used prior to this development; they were used as part of submarine hunting during the First World War and were the subject of a 1921 United States patent (US Patent No. 1365869).[3]"

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powder-actuated_tool

Interesting to note the velocities of various charges...using a 350 grain projectile! I used one to hang a sign on a building once, and the purple rounds fired nails through a 1/4" piece of angle iron on a header no problemo.

Anyone here tried the new Cloak 3.0 yet? I'm looking at getting a new holster for my G43 and maybe G19. I currently have a minimal Kydex holster but looking for something a little more comfortable. I finally got a nice gun belt and it's helped a ton. I realize there's hundreds of different holsters out there. But I'm mainly asking if anyone has tried the Alien gear ones.

Yep, I had one for my full size M&P (sold it when I sold the gun) and my sister has one for her XDs. Great holster, I like it a lot, super comfortable for me (my sister doesn't carry much so she's still not 100% comfortable with it yet), the only thing that is a downside is size, from clip to clip it's large, carrying at my 3:30-4:00 one clip is at the rear edge of the front pocket on my jeans and the rear clip is right at the leading edge of the rear pocket on my jeans, waist size 40.

But I like the holster so much I just bought one Saturday for the XDs I bought.

Thanks man. That's kinda the answer I was hoping for. I figured for the price ($45) if anyone had good experience with them it would be worth it for me to try.

Here's my setup now. I don't carry %100 of the time just because even though my G43 is small and light, I still feel it all day. Got a nice gun belt which helped. But I gotta try something else.

I carry my G27 in an Alien Gear Cloak 3. It's a very comfortable holster, but it has a pretty large footprint. It is fine for winter EDC, but it is pretty hot in the GA summers. I'm in the opposite boat as you... I'm actually looking for a minimal kydex holster for the summer.

I will say Alien Gear customer service had been great. They offer free shell replacements for life, if you end up getting another pistol or adding a light, laser, etc. I recently got a Streamlight TLR-6 on my 27 and they didn't offer a 27 TLR-6 shell, but said the 43 was close in size. They offered to sell me that one ($13 or so) to let me cut/heat/hack and experiment with, and offered a full refund if it didn't work. I reheated and trimmed the shell a little and it fits pretty damn good!
