So this might be a stupid question but if I'm installing a new horn and wire in a new relay does that overwrite the existing horn relay?

I ask cause I believe my initial horns burnt out due to a bad relay. They continuously went off till they died.

Are you mounting a new relay? Can't you just change relays? How do you know the wiring is bad?

Continuity check would tell you quick if wire was cut.

Regardless, if you are running new wire to new horns and relay, the old wire won't be connected, so it doesn't matter. In addition, getting the old wire out of the harness would be quite a job. It's mixed in with about 30 other small wires.

It seems you'd have to tap into the wiring between the switch (center of steering wheel) and the existing bad relay. Why doing all new? You need a new relay? I got a SPARE OEM I could send out to ya. I know OEM and new they're spendy.

So my initial plan was to use the relay I got with my supertones but now I don't want to install them cause ricer. My current relay to my belief is bad so it needs to go.

As I previously posted before I think I'm gonna go with the Japanese Toyota horns. Are horn relays universal or how does that work?

If I can't use the relay from the supertones I'll gladly take yours from ya. No difference in 2.7 and 3.4 relays, no?

I was kinda going off of this since it's fairly similar. I didn't say it was the wiring I said the existing relay. So yes either way I would be putting in a relay.

Not a hundred percent sure, but I think there is an identical relay used elsewhere on the truck that you could remove and put in place of the bad one temporarily, just to verify the original relay is bad. I don't think horn relays in themselves are universal. I think the relay more or less corresponds with the manufacturer of the vehicle. Unless that's what you meant regarding being universal, like being able to switch it out with other Toyota models.

I guess I may have missed something. In the vid, they are using the existing relay to fire the new relay. If you use this method, where are you going to get the signal to fire the new relay? Your existing relay is bad, correct?

Interested, so I'm subbed to see how this works out.

    Thanks

I have several Toyota's, but I think the horn relay is under the dash on the 1st gens. I know my 2nd gen Tundra the horn relay is under the hood. Not 100% sure, so I'm okey with being corrected.

Ok so the hella supertones I have in the box came with a relay for it. My question was would this relay work in place of the bad relay if I was using it for a Japanese Toyota horn? I'm going to guess no.

The thing is I haven't had a working horn for over a year lol. So it's without question whether I can test a different relay for the shit horns (which have died). I see what you're saying though, now that I think about it the supertones have their own relay for their product cause they aren't model specific.
The supertones came with different diagrams that give me options of how to wire them. Some you are bypassing the existing relay and some tie into the existing one. Only issue is I'll be using Toyota horns.

Fuck it. I'm confusing myself. So I'll cut the supertone relay out of the question. Using a new OEM relay should suffice to be used with the Japanese Toyota horns.

No better feeling than having a 13-year-old truck run 'like new', especially if you do most of your own maintenance and repair.
