    @Zac of all trades

    What day are you going to leave DFW? Wednesday or Thursday morning?

    We decided to not do the 5k and instead try and come to Big Bend...

    Pretty sure the plan is to leave early Thursday morning, like 4-6am. At least that's MY plan.

    According to google, it is a total of 9hr and 10min from Tyler to Big Bend... so I think I may leave Wednesday and get to Abilene and camp at the State Park there for the night, so that I don't have to wake up stupid early Thursday.

    That's a good idea, I may just drive Wednesday until I cant anymore, then stop and camp.

    I was thinking about that. But if I leave Tyler at like 5:30, have to drive through DFW and all that... I am going to be beat by the time I am through DFW. May try and leave a couple hours early from work Wednesday to get on the road quicker though.

    Yeah, I feel you for sure. I'm in Frisco so I can miss a lot of the mess if I plan it right. May see if i can make it out to the Monahans Sand dunes park wednesday. Its just west of Odessa on I20.

    I got a guy I work with who is down to join us - he would just roll with me out there. Cool dude, Spencer. He's a Texas transplant and has been dying to see the park.

    I am now trying to decided what I need to get done before this trip...

    Really want to get Sound Deadening done before having to drive that distance inside a wind tunnel...

    Anyone think it is worth it to get a DSLR before I go to Big Bend?

    I'm certainly bringing my DSLR camera. I want to see if I can experiment with the night photography and long exposures. I see those awesome pictures with all the stars and want to do the same.

    You'll get some amazing pics of the night sky for sure - way better than a phone can take.

    I got mine on Amazon last year. It came as a full Canon kit with a couple lenses, batteries, camera bag etc. If your planning on long exposures you'll want a tripod, too.

    Am looking now. Really trying to justify the purchase of one right now as there are some other things that I really would like before. Like sound deadening...
