I thought of that. But I don't know if you could find any thin enough to work for this application.. Plus might get pricey if you did.

Oooh could work. As guerilla said I hate how much good magnets cost. But it's a solution! Could make a velcro panel with something like little pockets on the back to hold them.

I tried making magnetic ended straps to hold up roll up flaps on my topper so I didn't have to install snaps. Through 1 layer of webbing and 1 layer of thin outdoor fabric material it wouldn't stick very well. Though it was also trying to hold the flap up through shear which isn't a magent's strong suit, so maybe this would work better.

McMaster you're looking at $12-15 per magnet for high pull neo. and you'll want at least 4.

One very cheap way I just thought of is needles.. You could slide needles in to hold them up, it might not be the "ideal" way but it would work, and wouldn't leave much of any hole.. There's tons of different types too.

Just don't let them fall out and end up in your buttox:laugh:

I'll take a picture and post it here in about an hour when I leave work. I've got a picture of my patches on there currently I'll post up in a min from my phone. I know you can't really get a feel for the material (heh) but maybe it'll give you an idea of what it is like and how to work with it.

Here's the patches on. They kind of stick on, but I'm like kneading them in there with a lot of pressure to get them to stick. And they're not on there very securely. The flag held up bombing through the desert, but if they get touched they pretty much fall off.
    IMG_0548.jpg

Again, I'll take a more close up of the material in about an hour.

Thanks! Also, you helped me just realize i never did a proper show and tell of the new topper I made. I have a few peaks on page 13 I think. I'll try to get something done, might have to wait until warmth and I take the insulation out. I have a space blanket and a couple wool blankets under it right now so it's not fully functional in winter mode.

I was kinda wondering about using some one-wrap. Good thing your headliner is black so it'd blend in if you had any showing. One-wrap is that cable wrap stuff that has hook on one side and loop on the other. I'm assuming the patches are all coming with the cheaper Chinese-esque hook material that doesn't hook very well. The velcro heavy duty stuff has solid hooks that do a much better job and potentially they could penetrate/hook into that headliner better. You can find some 1"x10/15yd rolls of it, I've seen it at home depot on an end cap.

$60 and you can move it easily from car to car?

Even if you have to buy 8 @ $120, its not like you have to do it every time you buy a vehicle....it just pops in to the new roof.

Guess it would depend on how you did it.. Maybe I'm thinking of a different way..
I was thinking of the cost of patches and mags, and if you kept adding to collection etc.. I don't know, guess it depends on whatever whoevers willing to spend to do what they want.

I just think, if you want it to be removable without evidence, you'd have to go that route.

Plus, it makes it easy to transfer.

Strips of strong magnets, cut to fit the patches then applied to the roof. No needles in your nuts or butts.

Otherwise, buy another headliner, and mount them permanently, then switch it out....lol (kidding...kinda).

Or just use the sticky Velcro at fabric shops with the glue on the backside. Then buy stock in Goo-Gone.

However, if you pull the headliner, you could essentially cover it with a large magnet, then reinstall. Glue smaller magnetic strips to the patches, and apply.

Then take them out when you sell the vehicle, and leave behind the magnet inside the headliner.
