    Nope, people do it in stock vehicles. With careful tire placement it's plenty doable.

    Just have to be fine with narrow shelf roads, tight switchbacks and steep grades.

    Edit, like Steve-O says, there are plenty of offshoots and side trails that are not good places for stock vehicles.

    Lots of old Mining Structures, town and such. 4x4 is as challenging as you wish to make it (loop itself is pretty tame but lots of side tracks)

    My Favorite 2 passes are right next door into Telluride: Imogene (My favorite so far in State but still have several to go), Black Bear and Last Dollar road is also a great visual drive.

    When we were there we saw a few full sized rigs. But at one place, i think near Silverton, they were having a side by side convention and those morons were zipping all over the place.

    Yep, they are allowed into most of Silverton, I think the last block is where its off limits to them.
