    That's what I thought

No way they would ever write in report that tech diagnosed issue but couldn't fix it

So now (unless you want to hire attorney), go to another dealer. Be nice. Take them coffee . Start over. Go on test drive with tech in your car. Drive with service advisor . Then test drive new truck from their lot with them

If they don't want to fix you need to escalate

OR if you want to go down easy road =get a Ridgeline/6MT tacoma

Doesn't meet lemon law if it is "characteristic of vehicle"

PROseur, thank you for being helpful, I have thought about pursuing the lemon law, I really love the truck and did not think it would be that big of an issue to get something fixed, especially under warranty. I will try another dealership and I just looked at all of my paperwork and realized that this is the 6th time I had brought it to the dealer with using 2 different dealerships.

    You are welcome.

    1) if you are a nice guy and have patience , start over with new dealer, document all

    2) if above doesn't work escalate and open case again with regional rep . Make sure rep drives your car with you present and drives a 17 new in comparison with you in it. DO NOT accept "I own one at home and it's the same and it does it too" BS

    3) document everything. Their names, times of drive, miles driven etc

    4) if nothing works, Go legal or trade

Mostly depends on the state. In Pa, 3 times to dealer for same problem within a year, you're gold, characteristic or not.... did it with a 2014 Ford F150 with a driveline vibration with less than 1500 miles on it. I was given every excuse they could think of, including the old " thats how they drive " and the characteristic of the vehicle blowing smoke up your ass BS. Couldnt hurt to get the ball rolling OP, do not hesitate. Its your hard earned money , dont waste it .

I had to stop reading at "torque converter not catching" lol. Man you might wanna read up on how a fluid coupling works lol. It does have a lock up, but if that "caught" you'd have some major issues haha.

^^^ That... If it were me and its not ... cause manual tranny, I'd take it back to the dealer you bought it from. Take a new one for a test drive with the service MANAGER in the truck with you. Then take your truck for a test drive. Notice the difference?? Yes we do... We can do 3 things:

    1) fix the truck under warranty
    2) GIVE me a new truck same as the old without problem
    3) hire a lawyer... it's already qualified for the lemon law ... 3 times for same problem within a year.

Talk nicely with the manager about your 3 options you see here and ask him which one he would like to pursue.

The politely inform him that while he is working on the answer you are going to pursue #3 in the mean time.... then walk out and go home and call a lemon law layer... it's not that tough, the dealer will come around.

They might try and up-sell you a new truck as an option, politely decline. You want straight up trade not extra $$ not even if you up grade... price they pay for you having to run back and forth to the dealer etc.

Then go back to dealer with lemon law layer and first ask the mgr... "did you bring your lube to work today.... we're going to need it".

So here is my question. I have the same problem as described here and in the thread that is linked to in this one. Of course my dealer CND ( can not duplicate). How does that affect lemon law buy back? I'm going to pick it up from its 4th or 5th visit for the same problem. I'm starting to get tired of it, especially since I've already had multiple other problems with this truck.

Hire a lemon law layer.... pretty sure they do all the heavy lifting. Usually with lawyers you call and make an appointment and go over the issues and they advise you and give you pricing for services rendered. Then go from there.

Then you can make an educated decision based on actual information.... lawyers generally know a head of time if it's worth it to pursue...

made an appointment for Monday, going back to the original dealership. Going to follow advice above and see what happens. Is there anything else I should request them to do? If the vehicles do drive differently, should I leave the vehicle there until it is fixed even if they say they can't fix it? If I decide to do so, I have access to an auto craft center which is essentially my own bay to use with all tools needed. What should I look for or tighten under the vehicle? Should I take the rear driveshaft off and see if the jerkiness goes away then?

Tighten U-bolts on the rear springs to spec, tighten u-joint bolts to spec if you have any..

That can be done by the dealership (in your case Stealership) you just have to ask them to check. If they don't then they are just being hard to get along with which I would POLITELY say thank you very much be sure to document not doing my request so I can contact Toyota and see if another dealer will help me.. (not) thank you very much.

As a possible update to this thread. After my dealer basically saying tough shit, we can't duplicate your problem. I have tried driving around with ECT PWR on all the time. To my surprise, the shudder/jerking has not happened since.

Looks like you have low tranny fluid. Takes a while to build pressure and is jerky as opposed to smooth.
Are any other taco owners close to you that can help you add check/add tranny fluid? If ECT is OK but D is bad, start with fluid add.

Per the dealer, they checked the transmission fluid and all was good. Even kept it overnight so they could check it cold. I'll have to check it myself in a day or two. I have a full shop, so I should be able to check it by myself. If not, brother can help me.

This right here. If they truly thought the torque converter was slipping they would pressure test it under load or diagnose further. I swear, people think that these trucks are garbage because you keep reading they are! Perhaps it IS a characteristic of the way it drives and not a problem at all.

    Get a second opinion .
Take it to a reputable transmission shop for a free test drive . See what the aftermarket shops have to say .
If you have been to the dealer 6 times , its obvious they think its a " normal " characteristic of the truck .
Its going to take 15 minutes of your time at an aftermarket shop for the free road test and those guys know how to diagnose issues like this . Road test are free
