    A used something maybe?

There are great buys out there from reputable folks if you know what you want.

I'm a cheapskate on a lot of things.

    My firearms however, aren't cheap.

Hard to buy a quality pistol for $150 used or not...especially if you want the serial number to still be on it

But you're right, there are great buys out there on the used market that don't come with a bad reputation

    1. Go to a range,
    2. shoot the firearms you want to buy.
    3. Buy your favorite

I would save your money.... buy something reliable. Glock are fairly cheap and will never let you down cost about $500 can probably snag a used one for much cheaper

Used Glocks should run you between $350-$450 depending on the age, gen, and seller

Whats your intentions for this pistol? Because if you're just looking for the cheapest pistol, a Hipoint is pretty much the cheapest full size firearm. Also, why .40? 9mm is cheaper and really just a better round overall.

    My recommendation is this...

    https://www.classicfirearms.com/tp9-sa-black-new-model-18rd-hg3358-n-tp9sf

It's a fantastic "budget" weapon, leaps and bounds better than a Hipoint.

Honestly nothing wrong with hiPoint. They are big, heavy, but go bang without maintaining them.

15-17 years ago a friend and I bought a case of 9's and I bought a .40 and .45 to play with the calibers.
Sold off the nines over the next year or so and still do this day have the .40

    Traded the .45 and $200 for a G23C a few years back.

They are nothing fancy but they are easy to clean and go bang. Everything you could ask of a hundred dollar handgun.

I'm honestly glad your experience is good, but mine hasn't been

I've handled more jammed and broken hipoints than I can recall...won't ever own or recommend

Getting to know a reputable gunsmith or hobbyist is a good first step. And getting to know baby boomers (old folks like me) with a penchant for firearms can make purchasing opportunities. Like when downsizing means what you can carry in your wheelchair pouch.

If you have a good pawn shop, find a clean looking piece, and pay the gunsmith to inspect it, some great deals can be had.

Not much different than buying a used vehicle. Pre purchase inspections are money well spent.

I haven't shot one yet but I handled one at the gun store. Feels very narrow (in a good way) for being a double stack 9mm. My local range is offering free rentals of it this month so I'll hopefully get to shoot one this week.

Save a little longer and buy something you're not going to have to replace in a few years which will end up costing you more in the long run. I have a Glock 9mm for plinking and home safety and love it. Plus it's always nice to know that if you need it in an emergency it's not going to fall apart when you or your loved ones are being threatened

I will clarify that I have not nor would I rely on a hundred dollar pistol for self defense or anything.

    Lol get yourself a glock.

However after you own multiple thousand dollars worth of quality firearms, get yourself a few hi points as well.

Never know when you'll need a truck pistol.

Honestly thats what I'm will probably going with is a truck gun until i can start buying the first choice types of guns!
Very good point, might just find something not too expensive at first as I'm 18 and going to be waiting on a lineman job in hopefully 6 months or so!
    Thanks for the input!
This pistol will probably be a truck pistol and maybe in my place i stay at lineman school, also they didn't have much other than little strippers guns in 9mm and couple 40's for sale on this one site so just checking on those as i know 9mm better.
Also have been looking there so might have to roll with that!

Thanks for all the feed back guys really appreciate the help!!!!!!

This is not a flame, so please don't take it as such.

Why a high point? Why a cheap pistol in general?

A gun is designed to last a lifetime. It is not disposable. Even good quality guns are cheap when you look at how many years of service they will provide. Quality really doesn't cost a lot more than cheap crap. You can't put a price on reliability. You don't have to spend $1000s to have a great gun, but cheapest isn't a category I want to be in when it comes to gun shopping.

No problem at all i like the honesty! I am only 18 and i do have other nice guns i was just seeing if some of these cheaper brands are nice pistols. I don't need anything fancy but if people had reliability with them and to get a feel as I've never used or owned a cheaper gun and am inexperienced when it comes to pistols.
