New alloy wheels and tpms

I have a 2013 base model with steel rims. I bought a set of alloy wheels and tires from a 2017 TRD off road but they do not have sensors . I been told that my steel wheel sensor will not work in the alloy rims.

Does anyone know that part number for sensors that will work?
what will i have to do to get the new ones working?

Option 2 leave them out . would there be adverse affects of leaving them out? besides the tire light on always.

 

My understanding is they will need to be programmed, either by the dealer or the shop that installs them.
As far as leaving them out I don't believe there would be any adverse affects.
You could also put your current ones in a pressurized tube and keep that in your truck somewhere and your light wouldn't stay on.

 

i was hoping to put them in myself and find a place to program them. does anyone know witch ones are needed for the alloy wheels

I did something similar and spent almost all day at the tire shop getting more and more bad news. Aftermarket set of TPMS can be had pretty cheaply. You can also sell your old set for a few bucks to offset the cost of the new ones.
I got about $350 back by selling my old tires/wheels and the TPMS.

Will that part number work for any 2nd gen? I have my finger hovering over the "buy now" button on ebay, just wanted to make 100% sure before buying, lol.

 

Steel and alloy TPMS are interchangeable. They just need to be turned 180 degrees when you switch from one to the other.

 

I'm attempting a nearly identical swap as the OP, '16 OR wheels/tires to replace my '13 steel wheels/Dunbalds. I've found this forum to be an excellent resource for learning about this as well as other mods but I still have questions.
My local tire shop does not consider flipping my old sensors to be an option. They want to install new aftermarket sensors at $70 each. Toyota online has them for $54. Titan has what appear to be several options for even less but the guy at Titan that I spoke with briefly to confirm fit and electronic compatibility wasn't familiar with sensor angle. Needless to say we didn't talk about electronic compatibility. And I'm skeptical about buying used on Ebay.
Anyone have an opinion(s) regarding aftermarket vs. Toyota? Any suggestions for TPMS part #s demonstrated to work in '16 OR alloys on a '13 Tacoma?

They're the same sensors so far as I know.

I have a set of 2016 4Runner TPMS in my garage though, so it it helps I can give you the info off of them.

I'd be surprised if they weren't all the same.

 

1Up and/or extra life or bonus points.

I've used my original 2010 steel TPMS on OEM steel/alloy and now Procomp alloy.

This info could have saved me $200. Luckily I sold my OEM ones for 120 so it hurt a little less.

 

This for real? I'm about to upgrade and would love to avoid the cost of new tpms.

2016 SR5 DCLB

 

So i have an SR5 that came with steel wheels. I got a set of the SEMA TRD wheels and just flipped the sensors. They worked..ish. I dont have the annoying yellow light on, but i also have the " --" on all 4 tires. How am i able to fix this? If i get new sensors, which ones do i even get?

 

Thank you all that contributed to this thread. I will be buying the 17" TRD Alloy wheels soon as well for my 2007 Tacoma and realize that I will need new TPMS that is compatible. Based on post #14 above, PMV-107J is required however noticed that there are the digits 3729A listed in front of PMV-107J on the bottom, right of the TPMS.

When I try to look up that part number, all of the results I receive are listed as 42607-33021 PMV-107J. Before ordering, I'm trying to understand the difference, if any. Obviously at the end of the day, I want the TPMS to be compatible with the truck so will await clarification before buying.
