    Hi all,
I've been looking to join the Tacoma world but only have a (strict) budget of $20k. I've looked almost everywhere in my location (Southern California) and it's very difficult to find a decent spec 2012 or newer Tacoma for under $20k. Is it possible to find a DCSB Prerunner for that price in SoCal? Thank you in advance.

possible I'm sure it might just take some time and you will probably be limited on your options.

    No way.

I had a DCSB Prerunner SR5 with a 4 cylinder that was just totaled.

    57k miles. 2013.

Market value in NorCal was $24,400. I paid $24,800 brand new in 2013. Dealer in SoCal had the same truck for $26k with the 58k miles on the ODO.

If you're under $20k, you're going to be looking at something with 100k miles or more or an Access Cab.

I would say look for an older one you'll get more for the money and it's essentially the same truck.

Just purchased a 09 DCSB PreRunner with 115K miles for $16k. Solid as a rock, clean, one owner! I felt I got a great deal.

Come east of the Mississippi and take your pick. Within 2 minutes I found dozens. Plane tickets are cheap one way. Work out the financing before heading this way and make the trip. Nothing funner than driving a new vehicle! I've traveled all over to buy a vehicle and enjoy doing it honestly. This one caught my eye, appears to be a special edition of some sort.

Paint matched front grill. Black rear bumper.
    This.

I "settled" for an access cab with 109k on it. Luckily it was a 6MT TRD Off-road. OTD price was 19k. I financed 15k and put 4 down.

If you are flexible on your options, you'll find something. My kids fit just fine in the Access cab.

Pretty tough to find any 2nd gen doublecab v6 with reasonable miles in good condition for $20k

Key words are in "good condition" and "reasonable miles"

Our trucks hold their values which is good for current owners, bad for potential owners

    Good luck with your search.

Guarentee something is wrong with it....

I see lots of tacomas that are what the OP is looking for that are salvage titles going for $19k on Craigslist. That should tell you how well they hold their value.

OP, it may take a while

Get out cars . com and look in the KY, TN area. There are dozens of them, 2WD doesn't sell around here. If OP was looking for a 4WD it would be a whole other ballgame. Supply and demand.

Obviously I cant guarantee that but that many trucks at that many different dealers I find it highly unlikely that they ALL have mechanical issues. Some? Maybe. I've looked at several Tacomas and have never looked at one and thought man this thing is a total piece of junk that's about to fall apart. I've seen several that are in less than ideal cosmetic shape but they ran good. It's just simple economics. They are cheaper in this area, no one wants 2WD.

Takes lots of patience. Last year it took me 5 months to find my truck. 2006 TRD sport dclb in great condition. Original owner, garage parked. 68k miles. Dealer maintenance records. No mods. Middle aged gentleman with no young kids. $16,500 and I was the luckily the first one to see it the day he published the ad. Had four other offers lined up but took mine because I had substantial holding deposit and we closed deal next day. Good luck man!

I think it would have some considerable miles on it. I live on Long Island where everything is always more expensive. While looking for a truck, the cheapest 2012 and up I could find was a 2013 with 80,000ish miles and it was around 23k if I remember correctly. Figure that would be around a $1,000-2000 cheaper if you live in a area that has a cheaper cost of living. Most of the 2012's and up were 26k to 29k though.
