D Ring Shackle size?

Silly question. What size D Ring shackles does this thing take for offroading? anyone got an Amazon link?

What do you mean by take? Like rated capacity or what fits the points?

There's no rated recovery point from factory to put a shackle on.
Get yourself a reciever shackle. And 3/4 will be the capacity you want

I've got two of them. Just have to be careful where you're attaching to. I wouldn't put it through a receiver shackle, pretty sure the metal would bite into the rope.

Amazon has several shackle receivers for your hitch to give you a rear recovery point. Never use a tow ball for recovery.

Bulletproof Fab makes a front recovery point that accepts shackles. It's $100 and you need to provide your own hardware and shackle.

 

I've seen that bullerproof fab one.
Would not trust doing a snatch recovery off it. Maybe attaching a winch which can be controlled and slow, but any sort of kinetic recovery nope.

I know it was discussed in another thread and many used them etc, but I've seen enough accidents in my line of work of rigging letting go and the damage it can do. Not knocking those independent fab shops but when it comes to recovery points I want something that a company would stand behind and have testing done and rated. The one ARB is making will be rated, even if its $400 to me is worth it. Seeing something with 9000lbs of force behind it let go is deadly.
After seeing a 3/4 drop in anchor let go while pulling wire with a tugger maxing out 15 000lbs, hell fucking no.

I know what you mean on this. It'd be nice if we could get something similar on the driver's side so a bridle could be used to distribute the weight a bit more.

 

I bought all my recovery gear from Viking Offroad. It's held up well.

 

I have one of these as a go to shackle if I ever need to use it, have a few others but they were made in China and only have a 4.75 capacity, wouldn't necessarily trust them to recover anything. I have two blue shackles in my rear bumper that I'll admit are mostly for show.

Driver's side has the tie-down hoop welded to the front frame crossmember... or has that been deleted from 3rd gens?

 

it does and its exactly that. a tie down point. not for recovery

No, that's not a recovery point. That's a tie down point for transport.

The TRD hook is alright, although I don't know what it's rated for.

 

I find this so strange,they should have put the bracket from passenger side on both sides instead of that dumb hoop. Anybody who's ever done recovery knows you always Pull from the side that is stuck in the lowest position for leverage

 

I have the Bulletproof point and am curious what you think is deficient about it. They rate it for 8,250 lbf and I think that's realistic for a 1/2" A36 plate. It's better than the factory hook since it uses a shackle and adds a third bolt (3 x 12mm 10.9).

I don't like that it uses the subframe, I wish Toyota would put plain old hooks at the ends of the frame rails like they used to. But it seems to me it's about as good as that spot can be.

I would trust that point as much as any welded tab on a bumper, at least there's no workmanship or geometry to worry about. It's just a hunk of bent steel and some bolts. I'm not sure the 3rd bolt is really helping but at least it's insurance.

 

So there is no factory recovery point on a 2016/17? Is your TRD hook not mounted to the same spot, just gen. 2? The loop on drivers side is a tie down, but I could be wrong?
