Should my mpg be this bad

hey guys I'm new to the forum and new to Tacomas. Late last year I bought my first tacoma a 2017 tacoma trd off-road. Long story short after a month of having it I decided to lift and get bigger tires and of course my mpg and power suffered. My problem is I didn't think it would suffer this bad. The dash is telling me I'm getting 13 mpg and that's me babying it on the hwy. is there anyone else having this issue?? If this is just the case then so be it I'm just making sure I didn't get a lemon.

 

How big was your lift? You seem like a 3" kinda guy if I had to guess. What size tires do you have? Size matters.

 

I average 12.8 combined in town and highway, most of the everyday miles are highway. I'm on a 6" lift with STT Pro 33s, front and rear bumpers, winch, rock sliders, tire carrier, hi lift, and spare tire. It is what it is.

 

Lift and tire size? I'm not sure if the computer calculates for the jump in tire size, you may have to do it old school and calculate it yourself.

 

I've had a few tanks of gas under 15 mpg with a completely stock TRD OR. My overall average is 18.4 as of today with just over 46k miles.

 

Yea when I went to get the lift I was shooting for 3 inches with 33's but walked out with a 6 inch bds on 35's. lol I may have to do it old school if the computer doesn't do the math on tire size change. But 13 mpg is bad I think especially if I want to add weight in the future.

I'm going to guess its the 6 inch lift and 35 MT's. Cause I bet their MT's.

But the good news is your trip calculator is probably off from the tires. I bet you're getting a minimum 13.3

 

That was a pretty good guess because he literally posted he got a 6" lift with 35"s lmao

 

Tires are roughly 12% larger. Rough mpg correction would be 13mpg x 1.12 = ~14.5mpg. Sound right with stock gearing. 4.88's will help dramatically with mpg and performance.

 

I get 18.1L/100km or 13mpg on 32" duratracs

 

If you want decent mileage, don't put 35" tires on a midsize truck with a shitty, low economy bitch motor.

 

And you are bitching about fuel economy?

Just to be fair i only poked fun at you getting 35 inch tires. @DCSBFTMFW called your engine a bitch. And realistically I should be getting upset too, because I have the same motor but I'm having too much fun with this.

 

It's a low displacement, upper powerband V6.

It's not the motor for 35s. No V6 is. Gears help make it feel like less of a shit show, but at cost of drivetrain longevity.

No sense in pretending it is anything else.

I had a Tacoma too. Now I have a 4Runner. It's okay. We are family talking like family.

35s don't get good mileage. That isn't the point of 35s. If you want marginally better mileage, take them off and get 33s. You want to look like a badass truck dude, and you have to pay for it with shit mileage. You should have known that.

Or.. and I know this sounds crazy.. enjoy your stock Tacoma and get 17 MPG instead, or buy a full size domestic and get 22MPG stock and 17MPG with 35s. Your call.

 

I am getting about 13 or 14 in the city and about 19 on the freeway.
No lift, changed rims from 16 x 7 to 16 x 8 and still running stock Firestone destination tires. My 2nd Gen averaged 17 mpg, and this 3rd Gen is getting about the same.

 

No way that I'm getting upset! Just pokin fun. My last taco was a 4 banger manual errythang. I think I have pure luxury now in a 17 sr5 4x4. I just didn't put 35's on it and expect it to be awesome in fuel economy and power.

 

I wasn't bitching I was checking to see if it was normal. I like the way my truck looks even if you don't. I didn't buy it for you I bought it for me. Read the post cool guys. And to everyone who genuinely tried to help the noob thanks peeps!!
