Are these really almost a pound heavier than BFG KO2's at the 265/70/17 C-rating size?

Just put a deposit down and I can't wait to get 'em! It was a difficult choice choosing between BFGKo2, CooperSTT, or these. I know the Ko2s are pretty much cutting edge when it comes to AT tires, but after reading up on the reviews for these tires, I gave in and put a deposit down... Can't wait to get them on next week!

 

They are also bigger... These tires run bigger than other brands of the same size. At least the 265/70/17s definitely do.. And rub a lot with aftermarket wheels, 4.5" backspace

 

Bigger as in taller? Wider? Both? Thanks.

A rehashed design from the early 90's is hardly cutting edge. The you'll be way happier with the Falkens. At least they are trying to innovate.

Looks a little bigger than the Hankook Dynapro atm 265/75/16

 

My 265/65R17 Falkens, XL-extra load, weigh 42.3 lb. The 265/70R17 Falken weighs more in standard load than the 265/65 in extra load by 4 pounds. I gave up the sidewall height in favor of speedometer and odometer accuracy. The stock wheel and tire weigh 61.2 lbs versus new setup weighing about 66-68 lbs. Just guessing at the Pro wheel weight. Going from 16 inch on my OR to 17 inch 4Runner TRD Pro wheels made it necessary to keep all things equal especially revolutions per mile. 265/70-16 equals 265/65-17 in circumference/diameter and revolutions per mile. In fact, repeating here, my speedo and odometer are closer to actual now than with the stock OR setup. My stock was about 2% off (reading low) and my new setup is pretty spot on. I used GPS to verify this. I know everybody wants to "fill up the wheel well" but that extra 5mm does in aspect ratio doesn't really do much for that except throw off your speedometer and odometer. The height difference is barely noticeable. But the speedometer error is. Bigger tires may look cool but in the end the possible rubbing and speedometer errors aren't worth it to me.

And I might add I'm very happy with the Falkens the way they drive and feel. They look good on the wheels and have brought many compliments. Not to mention I got them under the President's Day promotion at Discount Tire Direct for which I received $135 in prepaid Visa cards, the first of which arrived today. No complaints.

You will like the tires! I have the 265 70 17. They are aggressive looking but quiet!

 

Quick question for you guys...

I plan on getting a 285/70r17 tire... what's the difference between the "normal" version and the "LT" version of the same tire? I saw that one is 4ply and the other 10ply, and the LT version is heavier.
I got a DCLB and hardly do any off roading... what should I get?

 

Its the load rating/stiffness of the tire. And durability to puncture... If you don't carry heavy heavy loads and go offroading, then you don't need an LT or E rated tire. It will just make it ride rougher

Just got my rims and tires mounted today and I'm gonna have to say "ba da ba ba ba, I'm lovin' it"... cheesy. I know haha

First impressions: smooth ride and they're quiet, they don't have that loud humming noise compared to other A/T tires. I thought I was going to need spacers for them to be flushed with the fenders, but they actually line up perfectly.

One, single issue: depending on how deep my turn radius is, or if I turn into a driveway, there's some rubbing that occurs, so far I've only been hearing the rubbing on the passenger side. I'm running on stock ride height. I have yet to add a 1"-2" lift, hoping that'll prevent me from rubbing

Overall thought(s): I love them dearly. I love how they turned out and I can't wait to get them dirty
