What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I just rolled the dice on the Amazon ones. Over a buck a clip seemed a bit ridiculous for OEM. I literally just put them on this weekend, so we'll see how well they survive.

I searched Amazon using the OEM PN, btw.

 

I wound up buying a bulk pack on eBay for 7 bucks. Worth a shot.

 

Amazon is where ive got all my clips and fasteners. I get oem when I can and some clips carrry over from other toyota models. I think I just about have a bag of every clip and fastener on our trucks by now

 

Finished this yesterday morning but stoked on having on board air...thx @tomtom for the cruise control bracket idea, just added the baseplate to it with heat resistant washers and @mechanicjon for wiring questions

 

Talk about a tight space but it looks good.

I changed my oil for the very first time since I got my truck. I have no idea how the original owner took care of it, or what condition the engine was in so I sent a sample of the oil to get tested to Blackstone Laboratories.

I dug around the truck's paperwork and found the last service record for the truck. It was for an Oil Change and SMOG check... in February 2014. It looks like the cheap oil change place that last changed the oil put in Conventional 'Multi-Flo' 5W30 (never heard of the brand before) and put the cheapest FRAM filter that fit.

I replaced the oil with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic and a genuine Toyota YZZD3 oil filter.

I just got the results back from Blackstone today, looks like my concerns were superficial. According to them everything is in great condition. The oil had 6,255 miles on it from the last oil change. The truck itself has about 80,000 on the odometer (was at 75k when I got it). It has the 2.7l 4-Banger.

According to Blackstone, "Universal averages show typical wear for the 3RZ-FE engine after 6,800 miles on the oil."

You can order a test kit from them for free, and the test costs $28 dollars. It's great at giving you an inside look at your engine and maybe finding wear you might not see with your eyes.

Had to tighten my belts up the morning. Squealed like a pig when I started it up. New belts were put on a few months ago.

Yeah! I didn't realize it was so low until I came on here and saw you guys with 250k-400k miles on your ODO's! There's even that one guy in SoCal with 998,000. That's insane. You really can't kill these trucks!

 

Did you eliminate the cruise control module to install that? or just got a bracket because you have fly by wire in yours?

I started my big 3 upgrade. Ripped out the old harness and this is as far as I got so far. Had a bad ignition coil in my DD so that took up some of my garage time.





Also tested the converter cable I got from ebay and it plugs in great!

 

What is the Model # & Amp rating of the Delco -Remy alternator your using? Thanks.

Yeah and makes it really easy to rebuild your stock one and keep it as a spare for emergencies.

Okay question, my friend has a 2004 Double Cab. On the truck's 'C' Pillar (behind rear pass. & driver's door) there is an SR5 emblem, but on the tailgate the trim emblem says PreRunner.

My first thought is that the tailgate was replaced, but according to my friend it's all original. Is a PreRunner SR5 a thing, or is something seriously off? I'll tell him to check the VIN number or something. PreRunner SR5 doesn't sound like a thing.

It's a 2WD 2.7l Inline 4 (same drivetrain and engine as my '98 PreRunner) so I feel like it's a PreRunner, but the SR5 emblems just add to the confusion.

 

the prerunner badge only means it s 2wd truck on a 6 lug frame.

SR5 is the package for the rest of the truck.

So yes, SR5 Prerunner is a thing. Just like you can have a TRD offroad Prerunner.

 

Ohhhh that makes more sense. I thought SR5 was a whole package. Like the tailgate would say just Limited, or SR5, or PreRunner, etc. Didn't realize SR5 was an add-on.

What exactly is the SR5 trim level? I have a standard PreRunner (and where the SR5 symbol would go just says Toyota Motorsports).
