Not likely to find a tempt job in my field that is worth my time anymore. Tippet barely makes it as that to me as i've done it once already and know the work load involved.

I could yes potentially get some things lined out before going there. Hard to say for certain though.

Yea still don't even own a credit card. Last thing i want is debt from moving as i am unsure of any employment after i move.

Which also isn't fun for borrowing money for the parents for the same reason..not sure when id be able to pay back.

Cost of living is so high in California, have two friends down there. One is a Voice Actor who has almost been able to make living there viable for him, funny part is that his monthly income could pay for double my current rent and a new truck payment with plenty to spare if he wasn't so fixated on living down there.

voice acting is HARD to make it.

And you can't not be in LA to not make it. Whole idea is to start your career there, then move out when you are so good at what you do they keep you employed remotely, or fly you in ect.

From one Internet stranger to the other, I would consider moving to LA without a job in hand financial suicide. Figure f/l/d at a minimum of $2500/month.

Too bad that Sheridan gig isn't permanent it sounds pretty sweet actually.

If you just need a gig to put away cash for the summer you might consider Jackson. I'm sure Walk Festival, Arts Center, Hughes productions, etc., would be happy to have someone with your experience. A couple of grand a week would definitely be feasible. Of course you'd probably also have to live in your CVT all summer, but hey I know of a campground....

never looked at any companies in Jackson honestly. Be interesting...

Sheridan could've been my career. They wanted me to stay. I just didn't want this to be all i'd do. It's nice, pay is decent, and the benfits are unreal(insurance/retirement/ect) but not what i want to do.

    2500 a month..yay.

    but that is sound advice.

He's got more work than he can actually make time for right now which is a good thing by all means. But the funny part is he works from his own home studio, rarely does he have an in person meeting. For how often he needs to do a group take I would thing commuting from cheaper areas to be more wise.

Jackson could be a good primer for LA; high rent, bad traffic, 25% of the population is pretentious Hollywooders

If I invested a little more money in my equipment I could knock down 10k every weekend of the summer just doing weddings...but there is the fear of the unknown and the lack of a guaranteed paycheck and the inability to do any hard bookings while I make the transition to self employed...risk > reward? Hell if I know.

At least in Jackson you have every outdoor activity under the sun minutes away rather than hours.

oh...well if he is at that point already..i don't see why he is staying.

I don't have any of my own gear...well i do..but nothing for live sound.

Is that what you do there?

    Because i don't want to be a stage hand/lighting guy/sound guy/TD/stage manager.

And thats what's different about you and me...you always play it safe. I don't. Where is the fun in that?

No i don't think so..but probably too late now. Not staying here though. It's not what i want out of life.

Weeds i can still do. But it isn't in my field and would really just be stalling..

Being the whole show, especially the stage hand would suck. I just think Sheridan is a cool spot.

My real job is flying for some people out of Jackson. I have a set of gear and have done live sound and DJ'ing on the side. Problem is my flying job doesn't really have a set schedule, so I can't really book gigs. The other issue as you pointed out is finding reliable day rate labor to do the load in/out and a lot of the rigging. All that being said, weddings up here is a huge business, not uncommon to have a budget of 250k for sound/lighting/dj/band and I receive lots of unsolicited phone calls a year, would be nice to monetize on some of that.

200/ a day sounds pretty weak, especially if it's not just showing up and running the board for 4 hrs. I don't think there are too many people around Jackson with your credentials, on the other hand I also don't know how much stagehand type work would be expected since it's hard to find qualified day rate laborers.

    No its not lol

Might end up on Igor before leaving..but probably not. Just leave it alone....as well as Frank for who knows how long..

Interesting. Well if its like any gig out in this general area, I'd still be doing most of everything. I'm over doing that. hate it. I just want to do my job, im very good at it. But i don't want to have to setup the freaking lights and set or whatever. Wiring for audio is one thing. Doing everything..totally sucks.

But be funny to setup a Live sound company there and capitolize on that. Wouldn't even need much. Probably just a few K10s and K12s with subs, basic mic locker, and use like a X32 console. Be set.

Cool that you fly. I used to want to be a pilot so bad. Be its a crazy schedule. but bet you get to do some cool shit.

and yea, 200 a day isn't very good considering its got long days every weekend and im doing a lot. Idk. Not sold on it. Will have a talk with the guy tring to hire me back and see what happens. If he can pay me more id be more tempted. Otherwise..not loving it.

I still want to just spray weeds and camp all summer :p but not a smart choice.
