Welp the truck decided to throw a fit on the way home one day.

On my way home from getting my hair cut I was driving along when -suddenly- a wild dump truck in the fast lane appeared! It was doing like 35 in a 55, no problem just move into the other lane and pass him. Well that's when there was mexican work van (the standard white one with pipes and ladders strapped to it) that was moving at about 45 or so. Not wanting to be stuck behind either of these people I hit the gas (didn't floor it) and accelerated between the two and into the slow lane in front of the van, day saved no slow people. Not quite. After this acceleration the truck began to buck violently and began running super rich, like so rich the AFR gauge max out and stayed maxed out for 10 mins after turning the truck off. So I pull over to a gas station where I assume what usually goes wrong on the puzzle piece turbo kit, the IC piping. I've got a s*** ton of hose clamps where I cut piping that had no bead rolled edge, so it usually blows off. Not this time. So I'm sitting here thinking ok well...it must have been a hiccup? Nope. The only way the truck would start is if I held my foot to the floor and crank for 10+ seconds. So it starts, I roll down the hill the gas station sits on, roll past a stop sign (I wasn't taking any chances with it dying), roll like 200 feet, it bucks like 3 times then dies. Woopee!

I'm just kinda sitting there at this point dumbfounded as to what could be wrong, I even checked the turbo to see of it froze up or something and, no, no issues there... After sitting on the side of 1488 with semi trucks and cars rushing by I finally come to the conclusion it may be my o2 sensor (Primary), so I unplug it (while burning myself on hot exhaust then cutting my arm on heat shielding) and it starts! As I drove home the AFR's never got above 11:1. It was also dumping some white smoke out the back for some reason?? I have yet to figure this out, however the truck was backfiring and I believe the backfiring caused the down pipe gasket to be blown out which I then noticed was leaking oil, so im pretty sure that smoke was oil smoke.

As for running super rich? couple theories.
    • My LTFT have been like -21 for the longest time now and having the o2 sensor always correcting for rich conditions may have killed it.
    • an injector got stuck open
That's really all I got, we checked the coils and the all sparked...had plenty of oil in the engine, I dunno.
I'm gonna check my tune to make sure something didn't go wrong, so an F/I C mishap is TBD, although I can say for certain my tune is off. This is what I get for not tuning properly I guess :D

This all happened like a week ago.

Factory Primary O2? Is that a factory wideband? I cannot remember.

Wiring could have gone bad, causing a fuel dump.

Remind me why you cannot just use an aftermarket wideband sensor as the source for reading the fuel ratio?

I know it has been discussed, but that was a while ago.

Because the AEM isn't capable sadly. It only has the ability to work with an aftermarket wideband to log AFRs

Could be a handful of things. What are your normal driving habits like? Do you floor it often or drive conservatively?

I've floored the truck a total of 4 since the AEM. When I passed I didn't floor it I just leaned into the pedal till a decent amount of boost built. AFRs were good.

I'd say I'm somewhere between conservative and floorin it.

The colder plugs tend to foul up easily during normal driving. I try to put some heat on the whole engine once every few days and if I plan to drive hard I'll ease into a full boost situation over an hour or so.

My first guess is the plugs are just carbon fouled. Have you looked at them?

Yup. They're super clean, and washed in gasoline. :D

yeah we pulled those and they were clean, I thought a cylinder wasn't firing but that wasn't the case, you can ask my dad's pointer finger... I have a new narrowband I'm going to swap out, so we'll see if it was the issue. I'll check the wiring too and my tune to make sure something didn't just spontaneously come undone.

White smoke is bad. That's antifreeze. Blue smoke is oil. You shouldn't have oil in the DP either. Not very much anyways. Gas..sure.. Oil. No.

Turbo seal could've blown. Or worst case HG.
