I hope this is the right place for this post...

    I currently drive a 2013 Prius with 63,000 Miles.
I live in SoCal and the car is honestly great.
I haven't had to put a penny into it, until I just got a new set of tires.
Other than that, oil changes and that is it!

I have been venturing out and camping, hiking, and exploring a lot, and would like to continue to get out more and visit our national parks, and do a little off roading.
I have considered getting a Tacoma for quite some time, and my ex had a 2003 TRD 4 door, that I got to drive and fell in love with.

Here is where I am at:
Do I sell the Prius and grab a 2017 TRD Pro, and use it as my daily and have some fun with it on the weekends?

Or should I keep the Prius and just get an adventure toy to have some fun with, and not worry about breaking anything? (I am looking at a 2006 TRD Sport with 133k miles, priced at 12,500)

    Side note:
I do have a good amount of money invested in my Prius. I have a custom audio install (Show quality). I can part out the gear if I want, but it definitely has some sentimental value.

    Like, so many.
I don't know your finances, but which is better for you in that regard? Also, are you locked in to. TRD Pro? They are much more expensive than any other model.

Finances: Honestly, I make good money, and i'm single.
I wont get a new Truck AND keep the Prius. I COULD afford it, but that just seems silly to me.

I am not set on the TRD Pro, although I do really like it.
The TRD OffRoad Double Cab with 6 Foot long bed was actually my first choice, because of the longer bed, but I like the leather and additional gear that the truck comes with.
Long term, I am thinking the TRD Pro will hold its value slightly better. If I mod on my own, I will likely see less of a return on my investment.

If you want a Pro, get a Pro! You can find several cases on this forum where members went back within a year of purchasing one Taco in order to get the Taco they REALLY wanted. That is not a good choice!

I wouldn't keep the Prius, see what you can utilize out of the audio you have in it. Keeping it is just keeping one more depreciating asset, and I doubt collectors will be looking for a '13 Prius in the future (who knows?).

A lil this a lil that.
I have a pro..if you are going to load it down camper, armor etc the suspension will need to be changed or adjusted. The suspension is super soft. If you are looking for a plug in play the offroad may be a better option.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Find a nice low miles 2nd gen that has already depreciated some and use some of the extra coin to install the lift and accessories you want. In the end it is a better truck for what you want to do anyway.

TRD Pro is nice but from what I'm reading, a TRD OR would do you just fine. Save the extra 10k and get you a 4wheeler to explore those hard to reach places lol

I'd sell the prius, Fwiw I got a 17' dcsb OR w/ the sunroof and jbl because I don't think you can get a sunroof on the pro. I'm also in SoCal and imho a Tacoma is probably safer than a prius if you're in an accident with another vehicle, the SoCal highways can get pretty crazy.

TRD Pro is a waste of $$. Go for the TRD Off Road.

Expect your daily fuel consumption to increase (obviously).

Lets see a pic of this stereo lol

    You live in So Cal.

Keep the Prius if for no other reason than being able to use the HOV lanes during those awesomely relaxing So Cal commutes.

Unless he has the plug-in prius with the green carpool sticker, he won't have HOV access.

Keep the prius and get a toy in decent condition you can afford to mod and build as you want to use on your weekend trips. The pro is not worth the price, in my opinion, and your gas mileage using it as a daily will be abysmal. I assume you care about gas mileage since you own a prius.

I don't know how long the batteries last in the priest but aren't those really expensive to replace? That might be the only caveat here, is if you are coming up on a multi-thousand dollar battery replacement for the priest.

Still after owning a 3rd gen and living in SoCal myself, if I did it over I'd just get a daily commuter and an older manual transmission 4x4 truck for my truck needs/off road trips to the desert/camping. You could have two very nice versions of both of these for the price of one new 3rd gen Pro.

Keep the Prius, and get a used 2nd gen OR.

The Prius really is a fantastic car. My wife's 2014 she bought new has had zero issues, and she loves it. It's pretty great to get 50+ mpg.

In what light? They are literally the same truck, minus some high-priced suspension goodies, wheels and a cbe. All things that can be purchased in the aftermarket. I don't mean to bash the truck, in fact I almost purchased one myself until I did about 20 minutes of research lol. I think the only purpose of buying a TRD Pro would be to have the exclusivity of having a limited production model. Other than that, I don't see the point. Besides, I would be willing to put money on the fact that my TRD Off Road could go anywhere the TRD Pro could go, stock for stock.

Edit: as it was mentioned above, suspension would need to be altered in order for the Pro to be able to tow. So if you look at it in that light, it is almost a disadvantage to buy the Pro over the Off Road, stock for stock.
