Myth busters did a segment on it explaining exactly why. It was a great episode.

I'm not that concerned about it. I'm not here to prove or disprove anything

    Me either.

Just telling you there's no need to wonder if the tailgate down helped your fuel economy. It didn't.

    Shouldn't ruffle your feathers.

Factory splash plate is black. The optional TRD plate is silver

Now I got to find some of those. Would look great next to my placenta lampshades.

Along the same vein (see what I did there? Ew.) I'm having trouble with the notion that adding weight to your vehicle helps with fuel economy.

I was curious about that because I'm driving all the way from Phoenix to L.A. this Friday so every extra MPG would be beneficial.

Maybe the box was so big it acted like a camper shell? When I had a camper shell on my truck for a month or so, it increased my mpg by about two.

Bumper, Winch, 315s, Sliders, OME HD lift, Custom rear swingout, roof rack, drawers, way too much to list.
For less than $200 total.. trim is a little off, but now I actually have a stereo that works. Head unit was 50% off because it was the display.

My Fold-a-cover added about 2 mpg to my old Ranger. Not sure about the Taco, since I added it right after buy the truck. I get 20-21 mpg, which isn't bad for such a big vehicle.

I dont think its so much the weight being added, because 150-250 pds could just be an extra person in the truck, i think with the box being so big, it changed the areodynamics of the truck. Which helped it cut the air better than the brick design it is, lol
