Also, if you keep your eyes out in the classifieds, OEM headlights pop up for a reasonable price.

Mine were replaced, 20,000 miles later happened again and was told I was outside of the 75,000 mile cutoff. Got some replacements off Amazon, DTRLs get so hot, warped the plastic cover in those too. Doing the DTRL kill switch mod this weekend. Problem is the bulbs just get too hot, and I have my truck running a lot during the day.

did they replace the headlights with the updated housings? it looks slightly different than the originals that came on the truck. I don't have a lot of miles on mine so I cant comment on whether the updated ones actually solved the problem or not.

You can always replace them with LED bulbs when you get hold of a replacement set.

Probably not. They said they were installing new, shorter bulbs tomget them further from the lens.

 they tried selling me the non updated housings at first until I asked about how they were different, then they said oh you want the updated ones? no, I want the same headlight so I can come back in here and talk to you degenerates in a few months and buy another defective set...

I don't recall there being a milage limitation...you just had to have the damage and make the claim before the deadline. Those of you that were turned away because of mileage got screwed.

After I hit a deer last summer, the body shop installed the old housing and couldn't understand why I was pissed off. I tried to politely explain to them that the housings were defective and toyota had replaced them with a new part number. They just kept saying that is what toyota sent them and looked st me funny because I knew so much about my truck. I finally told them I would refuse to take possession of the truck until it had the correct housings in it, because it had them before I hit the deer. I handed them the paperwork from the enhancement program with the part numbers highlighted and left the shop. Needless to say, a week later it had the right headlight housings installed. Why Toyota has not superceded the old housing number and is still selling the crappy melting defective ones is beyond me...

they probably still have thousands in stock and don't want to eat the cost, so they still sell them to people hoping they wont notice.

Replacing your headlight housings is one of the most cost-effective things you can do to make an older truck look years younger. When I had my headlights replaced under the recall, I was shocked at how much better it looked.

Nice -- also shout-out to Charleston. Lived there for 3 years in the Navy ... has to be America's most under-appreciated city, and I hope it stays that way.

After going through Toyota Canada customer service and trying to argue that my DLR's should be fixed for free as they are in the U.S., they proposed I pay $700.00 to get them replaced. They told me if I didn't like that deal, I could try getting better resolution at the dealership level. so I did.....the Ford dealership. After having a 2009 which never had a minute of ownership where something wasn't wrong with the truck, am quite happy with a crew cab and a V8 that gets better mileage than the V6 in the Tacoma, and the 4X4 works all the time!

I dug out the old PDF.

It pretty clearly states the primary coverage was until November 30, 2015, with NO mileage limitation. It then goes on to mention secondary coverage, which may be of interest to others who missed the deadlline and bought a 2011 in 2012...lol

oh yea, I didn't get the memo until the original time period had already been exceeded. looks like it then sets the milage at 70k (if im reading this correctly)

That makes more sense. You fell under the secondary coverage which was 70k miles or the original five year factory warranty period.
