I did a previous batch with 1 less lb of Maris and no chocolate. It went from 1080 to 1029. I still need to taste that one, the GF kegged it, but said it tasted great. A bunch of brewers in my club were whining about ashtray with all the black patent...

That may have been what you were talking about, but Scott's comments there started here (I clicked back before posting):

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-brewing-thread.284717/page-531#post-14570316

He did not mention the SA Cream Stout at all that I saw. SA Cream Stout is decent enough for what it is. I used to drink a lot of it in the 90s, but now with NOLA's Irish Channel Stout and Left Hand's stuff (not to mention homebrew), I don't miss it at all. Cheers!

Gotcha!:thumbsup:Yeah it was discussed and recommend a try but it's the obvious that there are entirely way way above and beyond better brews out there!:D:cheers:

    Oh yeah....Wow! @ODNAREM
That may have been my fault. I didn't see that he quoted that post before.
Not sure if it even showed up on my computer (or Scott added it after  ).

Especially by you, if you're in Huntington Beach. You should have pretty easy access to both Modern Times and Firestone Walker's dark stuff. I have to order or trade for those.

That's exactly what I though when I saw the 1.25lbs of black patent. I think I used a couple of ounces in a stout one time and it was potent. I threw the rest of it away (the grain not the beer. Beer was delicious). Didn't like the smoky flavor.

Over rated in my opinion. I've had way better IPAs. Don't get me wrong, it's good, but not worth the trouble of tracking down.

Quite possibly the best lager I have ever had. Refreshing goodness in a can.

I agree with this. Lupalin River by knee deep is a way better beer. Sons of wrath by dustbowl is better.

Still, Pliney is a really good west coast IPA.
