I know I am new to this site and am prob gonna make some people mad but...it irks me to no end to hear people talking about their super fast 4 cylinders. Now I know they are great engines and I love my 2.7 but if I wanted to spend a thousand dollars on engine hop ups for my 4 banger why wouldn't I just get the 4.0 right? IDK just my opinion so don't get all woman fied and emotional with the feedback here just giving my observations...

I love my 4 cyl, if i wanted a hotrod I would have gotten the V6. I want the gas mileage of the 4 cyl. I don't have anything to tow (yet) so the 4 cyl fits my needs perfectly. Once I get my Ducati 848 and maybe a couple of other toys i'll upgrade to the V6.

Best looking 2nd Gen too. I gotta say that I wish they made the regular cab with a 4.0L V6 option, and with lockers too. I realize that the latter can be added after-market, but it'd be a nice option for the Taco that would make a better off road vehicle than the AC and DC versions.

I know that back in the early 90s you could get a regular cab Toyota pre-Taco pickup with a V6. I was acquainted with a guy who had one, I'm guessing it was roughly a 91-93 vintage, and he really liked it. I wouldn't buy one myself at this point in my life, got my reg cab 2.7 as an economical mid-sized truck, not for heavy duty towing or drag-racing, but I bet that there'd be a market for them if Toyota would build a few.

My 2000 Reg cab. 4x4 ran a 15.8 sec. 1/4 mile. I thought it was pretty fast for a small truck. 'Course I was supercharged. :D

I would agree. Nothing wrong with the 4cyl but, like you said, why spend thousands modding it when you can get a 6cyl and end up in the same place or better?

Of course, there's the "hobby" aspect of it, too. Folks like to mod their vehicles, regardless of what engine they have, and I can respect that.

Im the same way I wasnt bashing on anybody or anything its just funny to listen to people talk. If I wanted a race car I woulda bought a proshe if I wanted a gas saver I woulda bought a prius. I wanted a capable offroad vehicle in my price range that was affordable and durable and the reg cab 4 cylinder 4x4 tacoma is exactly what I got. I guess I am trying to praise those of us who are satisfied!
