I've heard nothing but good things about the Coopers, but I've not owned either one

Thanks! I wish that was true. A lot of mid-course corrections based on feasibility and budget. They build these in Germany for much more money and use custom aluminum structures with lightweight structural panels. I knew that it could be built for cheaper with an aluminum frame, and knew the basic dimensions of what I wanted, but @Iggy found the manufacturer, figured out the top section with the fabricator, and helped make this possible.

There has been a lot of influence from expo, and I've wanted a clamshell camper for the last 10 years. I feel fortunate that it's actually happening and that I have the flexibility to leave the truck with 2 different fabricators since mid January. It's not cheap, but cheaper than a new Fourwheel camper.

This is the prototype I gave to the fabricator:

I honestly dont recall. Still, senseless.

We were driving back from the bay area one day. Wife is driving the ol pre runner. I was trying to catch some z's since i had work that night (working 2 jobs). I hear my wife go "wtf". I wake up to some asshole driving like a maniac weaving in and out of pretty heavy traffic. At one point we get side by side and i let out a "wtf dude". The guy must a been on a good one because he proceeded to try and do a pit maneuver on us. All this time and my son is sound asleep in the back. I dont know how but my wife kept that damn truck straight. All i saw was red and my glock getting chambered as he was coming at us again. Soon as he saw my firearm, he managed to merge all the way over to the far right lane, but not before being lit up by the boys in blue. I asked my wife to pull over at the next exit. I was so scared that i had pulled my gun out. Her reaction, "you have a ccw, can we go home now".

    Good guys =1
    bad guys =0

I honestly thought that dude was going to make us roll. Never been so afraid. My life, eh. My childs life, i will wreck your motherfucken day.

    Excuse my language ;)

Worst road-rage I have ever seen happened inside a car. Saw this guy beating the living hell out of a lady passenger in his car (he was driving). I got in front of him and when he got into another bout of swinging at her, I hit the brakes real easy, so he had plenty of time to stop if he was paying attention. He hit me doing 50 in a 35. I told the lady to sit in my car and I locked the doors. He was pretty banged up since he didn't have a seatbelt on and the airbag deployed. When the cops showed up, the woman admitted he was beating her and all her injuries were not from the accident. He spent a couple years in jail. I gave a video testimony at his trial. Apparently she was a girlfriend, who didn't know he was married, and that he had two other restraining orders against him for abuse. I was totally OK with totalling my car to save that woman's life (and losing my favorite jacket). She had a broken nose and deep bruising on her face, head, and chest. He had torn at her clothes and she was nearly naked from the waist up. It was probably a good thing I didn't have a CCW, I would have probably shot the shit.
