    No. :pout:

Funny thing is I've always loved mini tools. I found a violin makers plane one time in a store and had to have it. I've done more with that little hand plane than any of the big one's I've ever owned.

Honestly its the measuring/cutting that has been holding me back. I planned to use flat felled seams and it will have one zippered entrance (seek outside has 2). I have a 2-way, 240'' #5 YKK zipper to handle that job.

These are "kits" if you just want to purchase something with everything you need.

Also, backpackinglight has a awesome DIY section on the forums but also pretty good "official" write ups/tutorials. They want you to pay to access the good stuff. I payed for a year for help with the tipi and then just to get an idea of projects. Seems worth it but I wouldn't continue my subscription unless I had a reason to.

Just do it man! I spent a lot of time in CAD doing my tarp shelter, then when I got it all put together it was a few inches off in a couple directions but it still worked, i just had to change the pitch height/width of the shelter, no functionality was lost.

Seriously though, that picture he quoted is REALLY screwing with me. Is it tilt-shift or something? It all looks so tiny.

I know one thing, you can make A LOT of money if you do custom jeans.. I couldn't see myself doing it tho, only for myself.. Unless I designed and had other people pumping it out for$..

I wish I knew CAD. Is it a pain to get a decent handle on?

What do you mean tilt-shift? haha

I really want to get into clothing just cause pricing is ridiculous for outdoor pants and coats now days.

Maybe Ill give it a go this weekend. Guess the worse that happens is I screw up the tent and have to scrap the material to pull bags and pillows to sell locally and make back my money.

How bad could you really screw up? So the tipi is 2" shorter than you planned, or 2" narrower, will it really make a difference?

It's not bad. It all depends on what program you decide and what you've learned on. I learned to use Autocad in school so I know it. As far as clothing it probably has nothing to do with the CAD they use for that though. I used to have a 3d CAD program that as you drew the house in 2d it was doing all the wall elevations and windows for you. Then when you got finished you could do a walkthrough of the house in 3d. Was pretty cool but just wasn't the industry standard.

CAD isn't too bad in general. It just takes a specific sort of 3D/spatial thinking. You basically have a set of tools, you draw a profile and you can either extrude/cut, revolve, sweep, or loft them (really basically). So you just have to develop the thought process of "if i have this shape and I remove this other shape from it, I will have what I want". 3D CAD of course is a lot more involved than just 2D. I've used 2D a lot on projects to figure out angles and such. For my topper I knew the basic panel sizes for the sides, front/back, and top, and I just added a few inches of contingency on all sides. I laid out yards of fabric at 60" width and fit my panels within it. I ended up purchasing 0.5 yards more than I needed so I estimated as perfectly as I could have. So in all it's really useful.

    Tilt-shift makes things look miniature.

Tilt shift is where a part of the photo is blurred a little or the subject photographed where it looks like a miniature compared to its surroundings.

Sorry, I'm a photographer too. :anonymous:

Yeah I agree.. Plus it'd be nice just to wear stuff that YOU made, and you can customize it etc...

Yeah, give it a go, shoot that's how a lot of these big time companies started.
