Some people complain about everything under the sun I think there are better trucks out there but they all have there problems. You should test drive and make a decision for yourself. They come with a warranty and have extended warranties available.Overall my truck has been ok my only complaints would be the steering wheel should tilt up a little more and because I bought SR model it doesn't have variable speed wipers I don't think any automobile in this day and age should be built with out variable speed wipers somewhat of safety issue.I could have done without GoPro mount. As far as comment about steering wheel if it tilted up a little more would make it easier to get in the truck.I have 2010 Jeep Liberty Limited that I bought brand new it has about 130000 miles on it bought lifetime warranty through Chrysler glad I did I have a file folder about 1inch thick with maintenance the many problems I have had.I still have it because I like Jeeps and the warranty.Sorry I got off track but oh well .

I agree about the wipers, my 09 didn't have them and it drove me nuts. I didn't test drive the SR, only drove the sport and one of the first things I look for was the intermittent wipers.

On the GoPro, I bet GoPro pays yota to put those in.

Like I've said before if you would read. I don't personally know anyone. I know a few people who own 2016's with no complaints. I don't count people on the Internet as people I know.

I was less than thrilled with the performance of my 2016. However, since I received the trans TSB Rev 1 I am happy with the truck. If you are unhappy and have not had the TSB Rev 1 do it.

I will say my Gen 2 4.0 was a much better motor in that it had more torque and a smoother power delivery.

I don't seem to have any of these problems people complain about when it comes to the third gen, but I also got the 2017. They might have worked out bugs and kinks found in the 2016. I can understand what people say about the lack of throttle response and sporadic shifting in the AT trans, but I upgraded from a 1st gen Tacoma to a third gen, so it didn't seem very noticeable to me.

On a side note: I notice a difference in response and power when running ethanol-free gas vs ethanol blended gas. Ethanol has a lower energy yield (measured in Joules), decreasing combustion work done by the engine. The higher the ethanol blend the lower the energy yield. It's meant to lower emissions. Ethanol also naturally attracts water molecules and will ruin your fuel system over time.

Also, you have to understand what an Atkinson cycle engine is and how it's meant to perform - its different than Ottoman cycle engine.

If it's really that big of an issue for some people, engine/transmission performance can be improved by engine tuning and transmission re gearing and Toyota will eventually catch on.

Ah ok. I'm used to using SI units from engineering classes. So English units to measure to energy and I'm guessing SI units (mm) to measure bolt heads?

    You got it. :D

Unless you talking torque then definitely use newton meter. None of this foot-pound bs.

I'm an engineer too and its good times converting units.:bananadance:. Shoot half my PE exam felt like unit conversions.

Anyway I digress. Back to pissing on the turd gen.

How is that? Lots of people get on here and post about ditching their Tacoma and buying an F150.

I'm not sure I'd want that twin turbo masterpiece when it's off warranty.

Forced induction definitely has a downside. I will avoid getting another turbo'd vehicle.

I just got off the phone with a Service Dept Rep and Charles Maund Toyota in Austin, TX (not too far from the San Antonio Tacoma Factory ). I am interested in a used 2016 Tacoma that the owner returned and was complaining of Transmission issue. It turns out the factory was not filling the Transmissions with the proper amount of Transmission fluid and this was a systemic factory problem for a while. He said because of the new engine/transmission use a different amount of fluid than previous models the machines at the Factory that fill the new vehicles had not been updated. I am just sharing info of what I was told by someone at the dealership.

Get the TSB Rev 1 done if you go with this vehicle before you take it off the lot.

Its deceiving because the "auto learn" hasn't completed when you test drive the truck. So it will probably feel much different after a few weeks of ownership. So a test drive doesn't really give you an indication on how this truck drives.

The Service Rep at the Austin Dealership said that the previous owner complained about the Tacoma "Sticking in Gear" not sure what that means. But have read something about Friction Clutches and read on the Car Fax for this vehicle that the dealership checked a "Clutch" issue. I am a bit leary now to buy this truck even with the warranty. San Antonio and Austin are still mainland USA but when you get down to Brownsville, Pharr areas of Texas it is pretty much Mexico and the Toyota Dealerships which are probably fronts for money laundering operations for Drug Cartels are very hard to deal with this is why I am looking to buy in Austin like 6 hours away from where I live. I love deep South Texas but not the Toyota Dealerships seems to be a pretty well known and accepted fact around here.

Don't just test drive it. Test drive it long enough for them to think you stole it. Some dealers are letting good clients keep it overnight. I would also suggest trying to rent one for a couple days. 40 grand is allot of money to put down and then regret your decision. If you decide to actually buy a Tacoma make sure that you take that truck too for a long test drive before you sign on the dotted line. A smart man tests the water before they jump in.

It almost sounds like the Dealer is coming up with a Creative way to sell you a truck that was returned as a Lemon, I would check how that works in your State, I believe in mine they have to tell you it was a Lemon.
