Best mechanics gloves?

I'm using cheap Canadian tire mechanics style gloves right now. Fingertips keep ripping open. I'm a steel fabricator, using these gloves for material handling and layout. I love that these give me the dexterity I need, to use soapstone and other handtools. They also allow me to tack weld without burning my hands. Only down side to these is the finger tips don't last a week.

What is everyone else using? Is there something economical with reinforced fingertips?

Please don't suggest rubber/latex gloves... These will definitely not work for what I need them for. I'm looking for a better MECHANICS style gloves. thanks!

I'm fighting the same issue. I wish I could find a good set too. I just grab 10 pair at a time since the ones from Harbor Freight are so cheap and pretty much last as long as the more expensive ones.

 

I'm in Canada, what's the price per pair? We're getting raped and pillaged up here. $40/pair for cheap garbage

I just get what's given to me at work. Great watson gloves with a long gauntlet cuff but kills dexterity. And Tig welding gloves are stupid expensive

At that price I can afford to order a couple different styles just to try out. Only problem is I have no clue what size fits me best.

I'm 5'6, from the tip of my middle finger to the crease line on my wrist is 7¼"

Usually these are on sale for $4. They are cheap crap and don't last long, but neither do more expensive ones. The heat from welding combined with the sharp edges of the metal kills these types of gloves.

 

I'm doing alot of bandsaw and drilling work at the moment so yeah for $4 that's even better. Not too concerned with how long they last. If they last a week that's good enough for me. Thanks for the link I'll check them out.

PS - I should really just take a drive across the border. Is harbor freight nation wide? Or a similar store if it's not. Closest State to me is Washington. I could check out Bellingham.

Rubber gloves..?

 

They are some sort of fabric with some sort of rubber type coating. The only time I have melted them was when they have come in contact with a direct flame or a red hot tungsten, never while welding.

I work in a commercial construction pipe trade. Dexterity is great with these, just not sure how well they would hold up to extreme heat.

cheap gloves from harbor freight, buy a bunch and toss when they get trashed

 

The best gloves for general metal fabrication I have found are Tillman drivers gloves. I use them for everything, even welding. Great dexterity for a leather glove. Highly worth the $11 a pair.
