4x4 struggle at full turn

is it normal for the truck to struggle to turn in 4x4 at full turn? When im cruising around a parking lot in 4 its fine, but once i try to pull into a spot the truck slows down and requires alot more effort to move.

 

yes thats normal i believe. im no mechanic but ive heard of that happening plus my taco does it also. take easy turns cause sharp turns can ruin parts.

 

The front tires need to spin at different speeds when turning with 4x4 engaged... If the parking lot does not have snow, your front wheels will bite into the pavement, causing what you are explaining. If you're on dry, or even just wet pavement, disengage your 4x4.

yep. take off 4x4 when on solid ground. that's why it's called "Offroad".

 

That extra effort is nothing but strain on the axles, driveshafts, cv's, u joints..

im not driving around a dry parking lot in 4wd. not that dumb.

 

During very slow speeds a 4x4 will struggle with the wheel turned at full lock--even if its offroad. Ever had to do a 3-point turn on the trail? I have, and it's difficult.

its ok, it catches you off guard the first time it happens.

kind of like the first time your anti-lock brakes start pounding the truck.

 

As long as you're not driving on dry pavement and the wheels have something to slip on (snow, mud) then it's fine and totally normal.
