If you need a bypass to check clearance mine are just sitting on the floor but I have layout #1, so it might not help

Yeah I would like to learn how to regear if the 9 is easy, that way I can swap out if I go to 35's. I actually have a spare 9" 3rd I was going to sell, maybe I'll use that as a practice 3rd and try and regear it. And the front shouldn't be too long, I've been so focused on the links I havent been worried about the front yet but was just getting more details the other day, it will be good :)

    damn prerunnners....prerunners everywhere..

Yea i is pretty easy to dial in a 9" from what i have seen on my buddies race car mustang. Insanely easy compared to a Toyota diff. might as well try! Save you a lot of money.

Good man  Looking forward to race truck status!

Alright, one more bypass question and I'll leave y'all alone. Looking at foxs bypasses, I don't see a layout similar to kings number 2 layout. It appears that it will have to be custom if I want that setup. Does anyone have any different information on those?

Also, I'm almost thinking about just doing a two tube instead of a custom 3 tube layout. I do have bumps in the rear. Can anyone chime in on the value of that extra comp tube for a truck that spends 90% of its life on pavement?

@Cr250jumper ill shoot you a text. I think it may be worth mocking yours up just to see how tight clearance really is, if your offering!

Late to the party here but when I was still sprung under we cleared my 2.5 4 tubes without notching the frame and had plenty of room to fit 3.0s if I wanted and that was on that hood rat driveway built bed cage. Still didnt have to notch with the C/Os when we linked it and I'll be swapping my 2.5s for 3.0s here shortly when I find the coin to redo my upper shock mounts, still plenty of room, I'll see if I can find a picture and text it to you

I also hav been told this. I've been told by a few gurus on here not to go 5.29 for hard desert style running and to go with 4.88 max on the Yota 8" or 8.4". Being 2wd auto 3.4 I want 5.29 but was leaning towards 4.88 for reliability. Remember Jordan (cantibruh) with that gold 1st gen dbl can pre runner, he burned two ecgs thirds with 5.29 real quick! It's a lot of $ to be wasting espicially if I have no front wheel drive to get u home now :pout:

Zuk is that gear guru guy on ttora right?

I have 4.88s on my second gen and have no complaints but I still wish I had gone to 5.29s. It is a trailer queen and very rarely sees street miles, most I've driven it on the street was in Moab last year. I do run a Camburg 9" rear end tho.

if i could drop the tacoma diff into the tundra axle that would be perfect cause the whole axle its just sitting in storage, ill probably do 4.88 since i only do 1 or 2 trips a year to southern Colorado. Anything other than the stupid 3.91s i have now will be nice haha

I don't or won't really dd it, I will drive it to an from meets until I get a tow pig n trailer (next on list of things) but that said in not concerned about highway mpg's or anything. But being a 1st gen with my little 3.4 and this dam auto trans I'm scared 4.88s r gonna leave wanting more. My last truck was 4.56 with 285/75/16 and I did pretty good, at times wish I went 4.88.

Dam it I was all set I. 4.88 only cuz reliability now I'm leaning towards 5.28s ugh

Hey @anthony250f how many 5.29 diffs did @santabarbarataco go through?

Zuk runs gearinstalls.com I've emailed him and he had been very helpful when i did my own diffs.

He is on here too, just not very active.

Did he have an elocker by chance?

You can't go 5.29s, no 5.29s for the front diff........unless for the 3rd time in a row you are also a prerunner haha

3.91s would suck so bad with 35s lol

4.88s may be a nice choice for your truck then.

Can't believe you're linking it considering it doesn't get used a ton. :p id leave it as it is now and just flog it.

Can swap the diff right over IF you have the 8.4''. Elocker won't swap.

Precisely why I did not go 5.29s... The truck isn't looking like its going to move anytime soon tho so its looking more and more like I'll be pulling the V6 and 4WD for an GM powerplant (still undecided on what exactly) and probably regearing the back to 6.0s.

I'll checkout that site. Yeah I've read stuff from him back on ttora too.

Nah he had a t100 rear.

From what I was told my tundra third is an open 4.10 :( that ain't gonna cut coming from 4wd 4.56 rear locker and 33's... Not in a prerunner with 35 lol

Im looking at either an L33 5.3l or L92 6.2L. Both are fully aluminum so a bit on the lighter size. both are the same over all size too. L92 is more expensive of course.

I wouldn't think you'd need 6.0s if you where pushing 400hp/400ft/lbs. From my calcs, if i keep it a manual and go with an NV4500 and 241 tcase, i might have to go BACK to 4.10s. haha

No it won't. 35s and 4.10s is shit.

His site is great, and lots of cool info. Nice guy as well to chat with.

    So wait...

    1) ECGS didn't warranty it?

    2) were the diffs he killed an elocker or 8.4"? I ask because i am convinced the the elockers do not hold up as well in general..

I'll likely be going with a mild LS3 build and a 4L80, still hashing out the exact details. We played around with gears on the 6100 for a few races and 6.0s were far and away the favorites. Weight wise I'm within a couple hundred lbs of that truck and I'll be running a slightly heavier DOT 37 so I'll likely stick to the 6.0s or something close to it. Like I said its a trailer queen, never really sees street time.

Then your diff will swap to a t100/tundra housing.

Huh. interesting. Idk the ratios of the 4L80 though. that could be the difference.

    37s too haha

I wish i could buy your truck and do a V8 swap..be so sick. I love your build.

6.0s for a dirt shredder with 400-500hp would be awesome.

And he blew the 8.4'' diff with 5.29s alot too?
