What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Good deal, I've got Dakar's already on and rear nitros on the way so I figured a complete package designed to work together should be pretty decent

 

I can't compare to what you have now. I'm currently on 881s, Nitrochargers and Dakars. I came from stock suspension. Ride is much stiffer but as a result handling is much better. They've begun to soften up a tiny bit over the last couple thousand miles. I'm happy with them. Your truck is definitely heavier than mine too.

 

I was never a fan of how the dakars and rear nitrochargers rode, too stiff unless they're heavily loaded for me. The fronts ride nice though, you'll get quite a bit of sag with the 881's and a heavy bumper like that.

 

Ya I tried to get stuff enough coil to support bumper without being too stiff. ARB bumper only weighs 68 lbs though so hopefully I'll be good

 

ARB isn't actually as heavy as it looks, I'm hoping it won't sag too bad. I believe the 881's are rated for about 100 extra lbs up front. We shall see

 

there will likely be a touch of sag. But should work okay. Might ride nice that way really.

 

No winch currently, no immediate plans for one. Probably upgrade coils if I go that route

Interesting, I was always under the impression that the ARB bull bar was one of the heavier plate bumpers. I have an all-pro apex plate bumper with winch, lights, etc, running the 882 coils, which are the same spring rate as the 881, just a little longer. It has definitely sagged over the years, but rides nice with all the weight on them, and maintains ~2" of lift.

 

While we are on the subject and not getting much help from my thread.

I'm planning on 5100s all the way around. If I plan on getting a small valence bumper and winch (~120 lbs total), should I order 881s? Or would stock coils with the 5100s be fine if I crank the 5100s to the 1st or 2nd setting?


Probably know the answer - spend the extra $175 and get the coils

 

Not sure but you should def buy my 5100's after I do my install.

get the coils. always.

preloading coils makes any shock ride more and more like a brick, especially with progressive coils. Preloading my kings a touch alone made it ride more stiff.

My 5100's (front) and 5125's (rear) have 15k miles give or take. And ya I would get new coils, mine are set at the top notch. There's nothing wrong with them, I've just always wanted to try OME

 

5125s have a different mount setup in the rear don't they?

 

I really don't know, I can get some pics later if you like. They are a generic valving, not necessarily designed just for Tacoma's

 

same valving as 5100s.

the difference is size's available.

5100s are speced to fit OEM applications with some lift(generally)..5125s..aren't. There are size difference and 5125s come in lots of different lengths(so do 5100 but different lengths).

Yo, I could use it. I had the 2000 fsm on my SD card and then lost everything on that card when I did hard reboot of my phone for some reason.
