umm no. CCW from any county in California is good in any county in California. There are a few other states that recognize CA CCW too. I do not know them off the top of my head.

I can imagine even if this is true there are strict residency requirements for the issuing County, like DL address, etc.

Depending on your county, you either get one or you don't (like us in Sonoma County).. but it's valid throughout the state.

The states that honor CA CCWs: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California ( ), Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin.

 

No I do not work for the state. The license is a CA license issued by whatever county you live in. Some counties are shall issue and some do not issue like SD, LA, SF counties and a few others. Some you need good cause like threat on your life, business owner who carries a lot of cash. Some counties allow "personal protection" as a good cause statement.

My permit is Sac a county issued and is good anywhere in the state.

California IS a Shall-Issue state but to how many permits are actually approved is up to each Sheriff's Office.

contra costa county sucks. I know multiple people who have applied and get denied due to not having a reason to need one besides personal safety. Although if I apply for one and it gets denied and one day I get murdered I guess my wife could sue the county for denying my right to self defense. Almost a good life insurance policy.
