I've been gearing up for a possible photo shoot / adventure this weekend so it was time to throw the rotopax on.

    20170313_194544.jpg

Thanks to @miles.less.traveled for helping me figure out how to mount them to the rack. It got tricky for a minute there.

    20170313_195541.jpg

    Real quick...

    • Who else puts something on their truck and suddenly wants to drive around just to show it off? Happens to me every time. And lets be honest, no one else would even notice. Like, no one knows its new except you. But it makes you feel f*cking awesome so drive like you stole it!!
    • Does anyone regret getting a short bed instead of a long bed? Now that I'm finally adding gear back there, I'm realizing how awesome that extra foot would have been. Especially seeing those Rotopax on there it really put it in into perspective for me how small the bed really is. Not that I'll do anything about it - I'm not selling this truck for a longer bed. I'll just have to get a Prinsu roof rack and throw shit up there. Speaking of Prinsu...
    • I get why Prinsu didn't design more of these bed racks. They LOOK absolutely badass but I'm beginning to struggle with where to put things! It seems so obvious, but, for example, those rotopax gave us some fitting trouble. I'm hoping they'll work with the tent on top. Plus, from a business standpoint, having an item that you have to weld together versus the bolt together cab racks, it makes sense these would be hard to sell. I won't give up on it just yet, but it's becoming an interesting puzzle to piece together.
In other news, my RTT came and it looks SWEET!!! I'll be sure to get all the photos of her maiden expedition this weekend.

March 11 - Barracks Trail near Kanab UT

I met up with Noah (Reise Outfitters) down in St. George and told him I was going exploring. I saw this trail on Instagram and we decided it was worthy of checking out. It did not disappoint.

    20170311_182437.jpg

The trail crosses the river nearly a dozen times, snaking its way through some very dramatic scenery.

    20170312_082121.jpg

    20170311_183202.jpg

We weren't certain on where the trail ended and how far we could safely go with the sun going down. The trail started to get pretty narrow and the river crossings were getting sketchier.

    20170311_185634.jpg

We decided it was a safer idea to stop and head back. The last thing we wanted was to get stuck in the middle of the night. The view in the morning was delightful.

    IMG_20170314_062912_825.jpg

We are planning to run this trail again later this year with more of our crew (and more photo documentation). It's a really fun one. Stock vehicles definitely wont get far. Those river embankments were steep at times. Plus the river is higher this time of year and even Noah struggled with keeping his nose above water in some spots (#snorkeltime). Very cool spot though.

I spent last weekend playing outside of Capital Reef National Park where I got to try out my new RTT (finally!!!). There may or may not have been some questionable decisions made this weekend... occasionally I'll throw down and party hard  .

Via the local online classifieds there were some brand new 295/70R17s Nitto Trail Grapplers for sale. Once I swindled in mounting and balance into that cost it became a deal I just couldn't pass up, despite not being quite ready for new tires. (Buh-bye rear locker money!)

Short bed + bed rack problems.... I just could NOT get these to fit with the tailgate closed. Haha!

UPDATE: Not sure I'm a fan of these 295's. Regearing became a campfire topic and I'm not sure I'm ready for that.

@05Moose has a great write-up on a DIY washable cabin filter.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/diy-washable-cabin-air-filter.90324/

Since offroading in Utah is maybe 85% dusty roads, I figured this would probably benefit me in the long run. So I poured myself a glass of wine and gave it a try.

    20170331_181418.jpg 20170331_184636.jpg
I originally followed his measurements exact but realized my compartment was just a tad smaller. So I started trimming in tiny increments.

    20170331_184641.jpg 20170331_192332.jpg

I added a dryer sheet for a laundry-fresh scent. Hopefully my truck will smell a bit better once the dust scent is blasted out of the vents.

Took me about an hour or so since I had to trim it a few times to get the right fit. Good little project!

I could have bought name-brand everything - from the bumpers to the RTT. I could have also paid double or even triple for it. And for what? A name?

OR I could support my friend and his up-and-coming brand who hand-built the front bumper, rear bumper, sliders, and ordered me a tent that is the exact same as Tepui or CVT's tents - spec for spec - at wholesale cost. I'm happy supporting local business and am excited to see how far his brand goes.
