RIP 2013 Tacoma. You were a great truck...

We had a fairly large storm out here in Southern California back in January. My Tacoma was parked on the side of the road and by the time I realized the local basin had reached max capacity and flooded over it was too late to move my truck.

At least it's a good excuse to upgrade to the new model, ha!

Did the water rise higher than the pics indicate? As is that shouldn't have been enough to warrant getting rid of the truck! ha

Ha! Water damage is no joke. And, unfortunately the water did get higher than in the photos. By evening time the water was above the front bumper. It's all good though, my insurance took care of me and now I am in the market for a new truck.

    :)

Ya I've had mine through deeper water than that, granted The truck was on and I was pushing forward.

Glad insurance got you squared away! Growing up and living on the Gulf Coast I've seen my fair share of water damaged vehicles and have owned a few myself. The major problems come when the electrical system is submerged but above the front bumper shouldn't have been that bad. Would have required some maintenance to prevent future rusting out issues and some TLC on the carpet and some other cleaning but I wouldn't think it would have been enough to warrant the vehicle being deemed totaled/salvaged.

That rain we got here was no joke! I don't remember the last time it rained that much here.

Sorry about your truck, I'm glad insurance is taking care of you.

Dude those rains were freaking insane! There was a friday evening (4 weeks ago I believe) and I drove from my office in Encino to Northridge mistakingly taking - or attempting to take - Balboa Blvd. Never in the 24 years of my life have I seen flooding like this. My gen 3 was romping through it like nothing though. Pick up a new '17 OR 4x4, you wont regret it my man!

Got 4.95 inches of rain in my San Diego backyard in one day (Feb 27). Over 15 inches so far in 2017 alone. That's an entire years worth for here.

Thanks for all the nice comments, everyone. It sucked, but it is what it is. I'm just very thankful the water didn't reach my home.

As long as insurance is covering you, it would be nice to take advantage of that, and get yourself a new truck.

Right?! It was insane. I can't remember the last time it rained like that out here. I think it was back 1996 or something...

Yeah, those two storms that came in were nuts! I guess the only silver lining here is that apparently the drought in Orange County was officially declared over.

Thanks! Yeah, it all worked out. I actually just purchased the truck back in October 2016. Got a great deal on it. Actually made a little money on it if you can believe it...

That's no great loss, now if it were a 3rd generation that would be horrible. Jk good luck with your new upgraded truck when you find one.

I think my next ride will either be a 4Runner or a Tundra. However, my 08 just hit 80k so I may be about another 10 years, lol. I've had it for almost 5 so far.

Thanks! I figure it is better to focus on the bright side.

I haven't decided what truck is next for... but I'm actually considering a 2017 Tundra. I loved my Tacoma, and I will definitely go test drive the 2017... but I am leaning towards a Tundra at the moment. I will probably also go test drive a few other trucks. The one thing I don't like about the Tundra is the MPG is just so bad. I was getting about 19 combined in my Tacoma. Granted, it was a 4 cylinder, but I was very happy with the MPG.
