Help. I'm installing the esp cubby mount. I have removed the three 10mm screws at the bottom, but, I can't get to or find the tabs to compress to remove the panel. Any suggestions???

Never mind, got it. They show the little red tabs in pink circles in the instructions but the text doesn't mention them

Sorry, never had to tow anything but may need to tow my other vehicle to the track if all goes well.

What will I need to do to get a trailer brake controller?

So here is the lower dash panel. The red clips are the ones circled in pink in the ESP instructions, however, the text ignores them and skips to the six or seven black tabs that you need to compress to remove the cubby and switch panel

As a matter of fact, you don't need to disconnect the whole thing as you can easily remove the four cubby screws with a small or computer screwdriver once the panel is hanging down.

Now just need the postman to show up tomorrow with the new ESP panel.

I ordered a Tekonsha P3 and the 3017P connecting cable from Amazon.

All done. Kinda had to scratch my head a bit because I expected a bracket behind the ESP panel, but I guess the two supplied screws keep the P3 from falling out forward and the width of the front part of the P3 keep it in place in the opposite direction. Off to pickup the new trailer in Ohio on Wednesday (from Vegas).

Enjoy the trip! I drove from Yosemite to Indiana for our tear drop. And I just drove from Vegas to New Orleans this week. Nothing like a road trip! Enjoy the drive!

I am sure its been said, but man I don't know if I would tow anything that was large/heavy enough to need brakes

My tear drop (approx 2200 loaded) came pre wired for brakes. I can't say I've wanted/needed them where we camp off in the NF, but having to travel through major cities (read idiot faking drivers) to get to our destination, those brakes have saved my ass a few times.

Lots of states require brakes on any trailer over 2000lbs. I probably wouldn't want to tow 6000 with the taco on a regular basis. But 3-4000 should be no problem if it's set up properly and driven with the appropriate caution.

My '05 Jayco Baja 10y has electric brakes, nice to have off road.

With the Tacoma trailer/tow package, does the factory wiring include trailer brake wiring to the 7plug at the back? I can't find any info in it, or have not found it yet.

Yes, if you got the factory tow package you can just get a pigtail. This is what I got and it works great:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T36OC7O

The connector is behind the drivers side kick panel, tucked back behind some wires.

If you haven't already picked some up, get some tow mirrors. I had some universal Cipa mirrors from e-trailer.

Got them still in the boxes in the trailer. I forgot to install. But I will before getting to the storage facility. Also this back facing camera that I had them install is priceless.

Just picked up our new Passport 153ML this morning. The Tacoma pulled it great and the P3 was super easy to install and setup.
