In the US you can get access cab / long bed with V6 manual in the sport trim. I think base model too? Canada has it in the OR, USA in the sport

    Not enough room in backseat.

If no kids and just my bride and dogs I would have the AC in a heartbeat.

It'll never happen. It would require engineering a different propeller shaft and the Toyota engineers ain't got time fo' that.

I misunderstood. I don't think they'll go back to standard cab any time soon either. My first pickup was a '91 standard cab Toyota. I liked it, but I liked my access cabs since better.

If I didn't have kids, I STILL wouldn't go with an AC. I love the storage of the Double cab, plus being able to bring people along. The extra cab space far out weighs the benefits of an extra foot of bed for me.

I had 5 seats in the last car, only used 2 99% of the time. I think in the 5 years I had it, I only had people in the back a handful of times. Mind you, this is coming from someone who is single without kids and whose friends have their own rides, if others don't want to ride in the back, they don't have to.

The AC works perfectly for me, I'll use the longer bed more than I'd use more seats.

AMEN! I had a DCSB Dakota when I was single and I hauled people in it maybe three times. While I was still single I bought a 2011 AC SR5 because I wanted bed length and not truck length, and STILL maybe hauled people in it once, across town. My wife and I take my new truck several places, but she has a 2014 Fusion... we both agreed when I got my new AC, her car would be the family hauler. (A family that we don't expect anytime soon, mind you.)

I've had two buddies with DCSBs and BOTH complained about the lack of room. One even reluctantly sold his and upgraded to a Tundra.

To each their own I guess. I have plenty of family and friends I drive around with constantly. I dont haul enough shit to warrant a 6' bed, and the stuff i do put in Id rather keep in the cab so no one gets sticky fingers.

It's all a moot point, really, this is why Toyota makes the different options (apart from a DCLB), different strokes for different folks, and all.

What someone considers best is all up to their lifestyle. What's really important is that MT is offered in all models - agreed?

Is it a Toyota/Tacoma thing? My shifter moves all over the place when I hit bumps!
I am talking just on road. I rest my hand on my leg, hit a bump in the road, and bam the shifter hits my hand.
I just want to know before I off-road the thing.

The last Single Cab was in 2014, so it didn't even finish out the 2nd Gen, don't think you will ever see another as they are too expensive to make.

Its normal. Your powertain is attached to your frame. Your cab is on huge piecesof rubber attached to the frame. Your frame actually twists very slightly. All of this translates to -your shifter is gonna move around in the cab.

Thanks man. I have always driven manuals and never had this kind of movement.
I was thinking the body mounts may be the thing.

I've got all poly mounts installed and offroad and sometimes on road I still see the shifter moving around on it own. Nature of the beast.

I do wish I had the choice of an OR ACLB M/T. Not sure I would have picked it but I didn't even drive an OR because AC and manual were non-negotiable.

My little 99 regular cab has a manual which is a lot of fun, except in heavy bumper to bumper traffic

Went and drove an Sport Access Cab today just to see how the manual 6 speed performed and what the clutch/shift was like. Only manual on the lot, plenty of low end and super smooth tight shifting.

Had a hard time going straight to 1st and hit 3rd to take off a couple times, ended up having to hit 2nd and then be very careful to go straight forward to hit first.

Truck actually took off in 3rd on a very slow roll and was out of a lug pretty fast.

Definitely going with the manual so now its just deciding between ACLB or DCSB.
