A lil this a lil that.
    Good day all,

I've had my pro since October of last year. Since then I've put almost 7k miles on it. Almost immediately after receiving it is noticed a couple of things. 1st of all the suspension squeeks A LOT. It's frustrating. The suspension is soft and every time you come to a stop the vehicle weight transfers and you can hear it. At any speed. If you're moving it forward in the driver way or coming up to a red light. When I took it in for service they said sand got between the leafs and if I continue to go through the mud it will continue to squeeks.

2nd issue, at highway speed I hear a high whistle (dog whistle pitch).

Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and if there is a remedy.

    @smitty99

Its not specifically a Pro issue. Smitty played hell getting Toyota to address his skweeky leafs, Im not sure what the final fix was for him.

The whistle is probably the lower arms, there is a TSB to plug the holes.

squeeky leafs "normal per toyota corp" you have to keep the leafs super clean and dry lubed to keep from squeeking... as for the whistle what speed does it normally start? it could be either the LCA howling or door seal.

Rear spring squeak occurs on all generations of Tacoma. And frankly most every leaf pack made since what, the 30's or 40's?

There are dozens of threads here touting various cures. Here is a cure for a 3rd gen that looks good to me.

The wind noise is often reported on 3gens. Searching will find what the resolutions, if any, are.

(BTW, you don't have a 'pro' issue. Pro's are just paint and pretty parts. The hard bits are all the same.)

There is a Tech Tip (similar to a TSB but not the same) for the dealer to clean the leafs. Take it in the next time and let them know you want the leafs fixed. Problem is they'll start squeaking again in a short while.

The official Toyota Tech Tip for the dealer tech specifically says NOT to lube the leafs, so take that for what it's worth.

Coming from the folks that can't seem to figure out the cure for the squeak and the sagging, I'd say the worth wasn't much........ :D

I also own a Pro. This is what I did to make the squeak go away. granted we are talking about the same squeak. All I did was spray wd40 on the front and rear bushings of the leaf springs of both sides. and it goes away..

For the whistling noise there is a TSB fix for that

BTW is your car a 6spd or auto?

ill post pictures in a bit... maybe

Hot off the press of the stall next to me.

Just spray wd40 into the bushing and not the springs itself

WD40 is basically water. Give the Boeshield a try.

@Asphaltcowboychip, I'm going to post what I did in here. Worked on both my old S10 ( which squeaked if you stared at it too long while the wind blew) and the current Taco, which has been in 4 months of consistent rain, a mud trip twice, and off road about 100 miles total. No squeaks.
Buy a tub of this stuff..

Energy Suspension 9.11104 8 Oz Tub Of Lubricant https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000MW5SJ4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_kkFXybEY9JQ5D

When I did my AAL at 1700 miles, I didn't have any squeaking. The AAL I got was ICON branded, but probably made by Deaver as it had " Made in Canada" stamped on it. The aftermarket AAL stack does not have that special lubrication coating the factory leafs have. They are starting to rust a bit, but no squeaks. I'll enclose a pic after.

You can tell when you pull the factory leaf pack, that's there's some kind of graphite looking silver metallic looking coating under the paint once it wears off and the leaf pack settles in.
So the procedure is this, if you're willing tackle it yourself. Pull the leaf pack apart or do this method if you do the AAL lift. Clean up as much of the flaky or loosened up paint and grit in between each of the leaf springs and slather a ~1/8" thick coating making sure to recognize where the springs actually contact as indicated by wear patterns. Put on about a half inch wide bead with a popsicle stick or your gloved finger down the center. You want to also go around the center pin bore to minimize water intrusion that may cause the center pin to rust out later. Do this for every spring, then coat the center pin a bit (avoid the portion you need to thread the nut back on). Don't touch this grease as it's extremely tacky! You can pick up 2 or 3 leaf springs when it's all tacked up together without the center pin holding it!

Don't overdo the grease application as it will get compressed out when the U bolts get torqued down. After a few hundred miles, you must retorque the U bolts! We should all recheck the U bolts periodically anyways if the vehicle encounters regular off road use. The grease thickness will thin, and settling of the leaf pack will seat the springs even further and the U-bolts may loosen up, so please check these!

I've since put over 7500 miles on this setup and haven't taken it apart or heard any faint squeak. Sorry, I don't have pictures of the install as I didn't know there were enough complaints about squeaky spring packs when I got my truck. I would have done a pictorial of the process otherwise.

    IMG_8842.jpg

Yes, I know the lowest AAL leaf is tweaked. It was after 50+ miles of off road suspension cycling between light rock duty flexing the suspension a bit, and lots of higher speed washboards and "whoops" sections desert driving last Sunday.

Here's that bit of rust from the edges, but it doesn't squeak between the leaf springs. I was expecting it to at 9k + miles and more than normal pavement grit exposure, but is still quiet, so no need to service it except align leaf and retorque U bolts.

The leaf springs can be replaced, mine squeaked so badly I couldn't stand driving it anymore. There is a known issue with the leaf springs per the engineers at last time I spoke to the crew at the dealership but as far as I know no TSB yet. They just replace them if you show them the issue, mine were replaced and I'm 10000 miles in now and still no issue. I was told if it happened again, they would replace them again, I don't remember the exact issue with them, even after lubing them, which you are NOT supposed to do, the issue didn't go away for much more than 2 or 3 miles.

If your front squeaks and grinds when moving the truck, get your front rad bolt mounts and bushings checked, mine were completely shot with rust on them at 13000 miles. I had them replaced and that fixed that issue as well. So far, other than the upcoming 20000 mile service in which I intend to tell them my rear end seems like its clunking when coming to a semi-abrupt stop, I'm all good. Never had a vehicle with 3 irritating issues under 20000 miles though, that's for sure.
