I guess this is a pretty random issue as I couldn't find anything via the search.

The material on my steering wheel is rubbing off. I don't wear any jewelry (besides a smooth wedding ring). The rubbed off material isn't even in the same spot where my ring would rest on the wheel anyway.

Has anyone else run into this issue before? It looks like it just delaminated and it looks terrible.

I'll snap a pic later if needed.

    Thanks!

I have not had any problems. I have read on here about folks that use a lot of hand lotion having issues. The lotion softens the cover and it peels.

    No lotion for me.

    Thanks for the info, though!

Make it Toyota's problem first and see if they fix it.

I'd check with Toyota first but it happened to mine. Granted, it's an 06 but I noticed it a couple years later after buying it new. I don't wear any rings or such, it's a small area mostly where my hand is 90% of the time

    That's my plan.

I am going to take my truck in for the wind/whistling TSB and have them check out the wheel.

My Chevy didn't have this issue until it was maybe 11 years old, so it's abnormal.

Hopefully they don't blame it on a cleaning product or something like that.

What do you use to clean your interior?

Is it wearing smooth or is it literally having particles come off?

I don't use any cleaning materials on the inside. Damp microfiber cloth.

Particles are coming off - it's not wearing down. Very bizarre.

    Perhaps it's defective material?

    Crazy.

Being in Portland, it wouldn't be a problem with UV damage either. :)

Hopefully they take care of it. If not.. I just got a steering wheel cover on my Chevy.

Sounds like you got the luck of the draw on steering material. My 2013 wheel looks brand new.

Anyone else drive your truck with lotionedd up hands?

You could always opt for a base model steering wheel if you prefer. It doesn't have the leather/pleather/whatever overlay like the TRD's or I guess SR5's do. It's like the old style hard rubbery type wheels. I don't particularly care for it though and I doubt a replacement leather wheel would have another issue anytime soon.

My wife has only driven my truck twice. She does use lotion, but living in Portland and shopping locally... it's the grass fed, gluten free, fat free, soy latte whatever stuff. No chemicals in it. Hah!

Exactly. I'll see what they say. I'm not even at 20k miles yet, so I'm still under the factory warranty.

My steering wheel has the same problem. It's like it's flaking off. It's really bad when it's raining out or really humid. I just deal with it though, my trucks not really a beauty queen as it is haha

Mine isn't either... but I'm a bit disappointed when a new truck just... falls apart cosmetically? Hah. I don't abuse the inside of my rigs.

Oh I didn't see yours was a 2015, I'd be kinda pissed. Mines an 05 and I've treated it kinda bad through the years so I'm not mad at it haha

    Exactly.

If it was an older rig I wouldn't be too concerned.

Oh man, that is pretty bad for a '15. Talk to Toyota see if there's something they can do, if not swap it or wrap it with something, don't think that'll just stop
