What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

My 2015 is on it's 4th windshield in 15 months. The current one is cracked too, but up in the right hand corner and hard to see.

Curious to see how the paint holds up. My 2007 have the faded mold look to them and I'd certainly like to change that.

First of all, I love my truck. But, I will admit, I almost traded it in this morning. Only reason is, I've always wanted a Charger RT Scat Pack. Actually almost bought one rather than buying my Tacoma 2 years ago.
But, I kept saying in my head, if they offered a good enough trade that would make me happy, then I will trade it. They came close ($500 difference). But, it wasn't enough to let it go. I still love my truck.

 

It's the Lotek pod (http://www.gaugepods.com/toyota_t.html). The fit in the truck itself seems good. There's a slight gap at the very top/bottom of the grab handle. The top gap is visible in my picture. I may take my heat gun to the grab handle to bend those points in to eliminate the gap if it ends up bugging me.

Guage fitment was a little trickier. The gauge holes are intentionally undersized just slightly for a tight fit. I had to file the top hole to get the gauge to go in. The bottom hole I was able to fit the gauge without filing. Bezel clearance was something entirely different. I'm mounting PLX gauges and maybe they have a slightly larger than normal bezel diameter (i don't know), but I had to do some light sanding with the dremel because the bezels were hitting the pillar and sticking out 1/4"+ from flush. The top gauge took less than the bottom gauge. I was worried about putting a hole in the pillar with the bottom gauge, so I used my heat gun to soften the plastic and reshaped the pillar ever so slightly to get the bottom gauge to seat.

 

I am curious at what ball park price they would offer for a 2015 Sport like yours? If you don't mind sharing. If not, that's OK too.

 

I had their gauge setup in my 03 taco and wasnt happy at all with it, so many gaps and random bumps that were not needed. also looks like they dont have one for the 2014

 

Is all royal purp synthetic? If so save yourself some $$ next time and use dyno Lucas.

Can't you just tap into the dtrl wiring?

 

I've read a number of comments about poor fitment, so I either got lucky or they've improved on their quality. If anything, the pods could have done with moving out from the main pillar an extra 1/8" or so to provide bezel clearance. The actual main part of the pillar though seems nearly identical to the factory pillar. As I've seen mentioned before, I had to do some dremeling to the grab handles to make them fit. There's an indexing tab that has to come off. I've also read a lot of complaints about the color not being an exact match. To my eye, it's close enough that I can't tell a difference between the color of the grab handle and the pillar.

The "05-09" pillar may work on your 14. I don't know if/when Toyota updated them.

 

I think that's what needs to be done, but not sure what wire that is. Assuming I can/have to use a t-tap, since it came in the kit I received, so it's just a matter of finding the wire.

A fellow CT member gave me some info that I think will help, so going to attempt it and see what happens. Thinking about doing a "mock up" sort of speak, and connect everything to make sure I know where it all goes and have a visual before I actually put it all on the truck.

 

Just start cutting wires and when the dtrl turn off you've found the right one

I bet there is a schematic for it somewhere, I'll try to find one.

 

Just remember that the DTRLs are also the turn signals, so if you tap the halos into the DTRLs they will also flash with the turn signals when you use them. Could be a cool effect.

I have retros on order (since August!) And have read a few places that the LED halos dont like heat that's generated by the HID. No conclusive data is out there, maybe you lose a week of life out of 5 years, or maybe you lose half who knows. I plan to wire mine with relays that turn the halos off when headlights go on.

 

Makes sense.
