Apologies if I'm missing a thread on this, as I've seen folks ask about specific speakers but have never really seen anything conclusive on the quality / value.

Any suggestions (or value) in replacing the factory speakers with something with a bit richer/fuller sound? Not really wanting to have to add an amp, cut into the dash for tweeters, or sub right now.

I see some JBLs that look like they could do the trick, but if consensus is I won't get much improvement without amp/sub/replace head unit I'll just deal with the "acceptable" audio that's in my OR.

    Any product suggestions welcome.

I've got the premium and tech pack with JBL, I think the JBL's sound very nice.

I'm interested in changing the speakers in my base SR and also adding speakers in the rear doors. I checked Crutchfield and they show no available speakers for our Tacomas except for the tweeters in the front dash.

I've installed several car sound systems before and have seen that the 3rd gens have the same speaker sizes as the 2ng gen.
So in terms of what speakers you want, its all brand favoring...

I wouldn't recommend buying the basic model from brand names.
They are generally not made of quality materials as their medium and higher tiers. (usually cheap Chinese and possibly counterfeit)

Probably a stupid question, but is the output really low on the stock entune head unit, or is it a function of the speakers? With the windows down seems like you need the volume up near 85%-90% of max to really hear anything well. So I'm wondering if I did speakers, would that change anything, or need an amp?

Agree - I often find myself with the volume near max and I don't listen to deafening volume. And I feel like I need to turn it all the way up to hear very much mids and base. But, I've already spent quite a bit getting the truck modded to my outdoor lifestyle, so not looking to drop yet another grand to upgrade the sound. Hoping someone has a specific set of front/rear speakers that were pretty easy to self-install that they were happy with.

I have the non-JBL Entune system and changed out all 4 door speakers to some mid-grade Pioneers, 6X9s in the front and 6.5 in the door and didn't gain any noticeable change, in fact you'll have to turn-up the volume considerably to get the headunit to push out decent sound of the aftermarket speakers.

I ended up putting an Alpine micro-amp behind the headunit and powered 8 inch sub, sounds pretty decent.

Unless you plan on adding an amp, I wouldn't replace the speakers, even though they are cheapest looking speakers ever created.

Helpful feedback and was what I was afraid of, so for now I'll probably just deal with it and once I've licked the wounds of my first 3 months of mods I may decide to bite off a full upgrade. Thank you

My thoughts exactly. I think my wife will kill me if I do anything else in 2017. Next year....glad to know that doing anything will require an amp.

The front speakers are 6x9, the rears are 6.5. Then you have to buy the speaker adapter mounts and wiring connectors. Pretty sure its all the same as the 2015. I just replaced all 4 of mine last night. I used some nice kicker speakers off Amazon.

I should have just purchased the OEM Audio plus system for $1500, still regret tapping into the wiring harness with the Alpine amp and sub.

I replaced the 4 door speakers and installed a small alpine amp that is small enough to fit under / behind the head unit. No sub, and it made a huge difference. I disassembled the OEM speakers to make mounts for the new ones. I later replaced the head unit for other reasons.

Aftermarket speakers without a DSP and amp will result in minimal improvement if any at all. Do it right or don't do it all.

I recommend the OEM Audio 450Q system

Any particular reason you feel that way? I'm debating whether to get the OEM Audio Plus system or build my own system. With the equipment I would want, the price savings wouldn't be that significant but at least I could do it in stages and not shell out $1,500 in one go.

There is a company that sells the OEM Audio kit for our trucks at a much cheaper price. It was posted here recently. Anyone remember?

I probably spent about $600 and some change for new door speakers, Alpine amp, 8 inch powered sub, and some sound deadening. Sounds better than the factory system, but I do like the simplicity and design of the OEM Audio plus system, if I hadn't already spent the $600 for what I have now, I would have purchased the OEM Audio system, just my opinion and preference. And yes, I've heard OEM Audio system and sounds much better than the setup I put in for $600.
