It is currently not one of those 4 months here, either.

So I'll wear flip flops instead.

Out of curiosity.. $1k includes that flat bed tow or no? It's too bad you couldn't have had the alternator yanked in the driveway and taken to be bench tested.

On the plus side, it'll be fixed and with OEM and should be problem free.

I only put on my sandals to kayak right now. Been twice in January already, once in February. If March doesn't get its shit together, we won;t get to go every month this year.
    That's the goal anyway.

    In my experience...
9/10 times when a vehicle suddenly has inexplicable electrical issues with a good battery in, it's the alternator.

    It wasn't me.

Long story short: a good friend of mine was turning 21, so we drove to the other side of WA to spend it with him. My truck was the only vehicle that could comfortably hold all five of us, so we didn't really have a choice about the vehicle situation. We took him out to the best gay bar in Spokane (Irv's!), got him drunk on AMFs, did some karaoke, danced with the drag queens a bit, drank some more. He passed out in a concrete garden box down the street and one of the other guys had to carry him back to the truck. We sat him up in the passenger seat with the window open. He puked all down the door about halfway home.

He woke up and cleaned it up the next morning.

I was extremely lucky. The smell did not linger and he did a damn fine cleaning job.

    I love it!
We want to do an overnight trip. Just a matter of where we can go for that distance and have a camp spot, put in/take out, and packing all our shit (beer). Probably be a summer weekend with clear skies. Bring 2 tarps, one to lay on, the other for a canopy.

    Not including the flat bed.

Here's my totals (approx) for the day:

    Flat bed tow: $130
    New, bigger, better battery: $120
New serpentine belt: $60 to $100
    New alternator: just under $500
    Diagnostics: $115
    Labor: The rest

Not too shabby, really, for dealer costs. Can't see anything where you're being reamed.

    Always wanted to do this.

Before we decided to get pregnant we wanted to snag new kayaks and do the same.

Getting pregnant was fun though, so hey. Almost the same thing.

Yeah, it could have been a lot worse. I actually like the guys that I work with at the dealer, too. I was just there 3 weeks ago for an oil change. Plus, like you pointed out, the alternator is going to be OEM, which I'm happy about. Battery has a 7 year warranty with a 2 year replacement plan. I was fairly happy with these options. I just want her fixed and done. She's old and needs some good work done anyway.
