So yesterday I adjusted my bilstien 5100's to second setting. I have ome 881 coils. This week I was planning on getting some 285/75's which is why I adjusted them up a bit. I marked the alignment cams before I loosened them up. Now that its all back together and I checked the alignment using jberry's write up, when i go drive it, it goes way out of alignment, without anything moving. Camber and toe changes. And then sitting in the drive way, if i turn my wheels all the way both ways, it goes back in to alignment! I replaced balljoints and tie rods and LCA bushings last summer so thats not the problem. Truck has 183,000 mi. Any ideas? I saw an old thread of someone with exact some problem but they ended up selling it, thats not an option for me, i love this truck.

that's kind of odd - i'm guessing you're planning on having a shop do an alignment after you throw the 285s on?

Did you retorque everything on the front end already and check the steering rack? You might want to get the front end on jackstands and have someone turn the wheel to see if you can put resistance on the wheels from turning and see if that helps see what is happening.

Yeah Ive checked torque a couple times already, I might try that while someone turns the wheel. Steering rack seems fine but I'm not sure what I could be checking other than bushing play, which it doesn't have any because those are 6 months old.

Since you pretty much just loosened things up and changed the coil over settings maybe compress the coilovers with a jack too and see if anything's happening.

Well a little update, so I noticed when it gets way out of wack, the ride height changes. When its way out, its higher, so I was thinking maybe when its that high, thats how high it should be and shocks are settling weird. So we maxed the alignment cams out, which still gave a bit of negative camber, adjusted toe accordingly and test drove it. It drove better, but still no where near perfect. When I got out from test driving, the ride height was back down and tires were sitting way out like this /\. The cams are still maxed out obviously and the toe didn't change like it was, so it leads me to believe the 5100's themselves are changing in ride height, I don't know how but thats my theory. Any one else got any ideas?

Are you adjusting the alignment with the full weight of the vehicle on it? Alignment should be set at ride height. Improper alignment can pull the wheels out or in/under vehicle and change ride height because its fighting itself.

Sounds like the problem I was having, but I'm long travel and the top of my shock was binding on the shock mounts so it would move but the ride height would get stuck in weird positions, usually all the way up or all the way down, I doubt that's your problem though

Yeah i was doing it wth weight on.
That could be my problem, idk.

Anyway, got it to the alignment shop today, they think one if the inner tie rods needs replacing, stupid vatozone, taiwan parts! I replaced those less than a year ago and they've got so much play!!!! Hopefully they can align it normally after that and it quits acting weird with the new inner.
