Installed my Spec D Black Projector Headlights, I like the look except I thought there was led halo around the projectors and I asked an employee at car.id before I ordered and he said yes then when I turned them on nothing. I wanted them to send me led bulbs but they would only give me $25 gift card so going to look for some led lights today to give it a more mean look! Also need to align them some more

In actually pretty happy about the output, everyone said they don't have grey ouput but I think it's a really crystal clear yellow that's lights up really well, and you can have you dogs on while you have your high beams on, so that's a plus!

These use h1 halogen bulbs, pretty yellow but kind of a clear yellow not like factory yellow

Does the halo light light up at all? I've never seen a picture of the halo light on

These headlights are brought up from time to time by folks here who are thinking of buying them. I would get some night shots of the output so people know what to expect if/when they buy them. Also don't just throw in some H1 LED bulbs. They might have the color temp your looking for but they won't have the performance. It would be advisable to get a quality set of halogens like GE Megalites or Philips bulbs.

@Zanone_taco Did you ever get any photos with the H1 LED’s? What brand of LED did you go with?

Curious how the projector is mounted in there. Would love to go the lazy route for my next retrofit and buy these to take apart and put a better quality projector in there. And how good the outer lens is. Would hate for then to haze or yellow in just a year. I've had good luck out of my depo lights so far.

I'm sure they mount similar to these.

Oh shit! Definitely see this in my future then. Probably have to 3d print my own adapter to fit the morimoto d2s but no biggie there. This is way easier than doing a full reflector bowl! Thanks brotha! :fistbump:

Thread revival, I know, but has anyone taken these apart? I'm curious to see if the headlight is all one piece or if the bowls and bezels and everything can be removed and painted.

This is just a guess based off seeing other Spec-D lights taken apart. The front shroud around the headlight bucket is usually separate from the bowl. My guess is that a MH1 HID projector or a D2S would be able to be bolted in pretty easily as well. Not sure how they have the projector mounted, but its either shaft mounted or bolted in. Either way it would be easy to install a real projector.

I contacted them and they said they thought it was one piece and not separate but I figured they kinna wouldn’t know.

Ya, they usually don't know any details about the headlight. Just the basics like what bulb will fit and sometimes minimal wiring trouble shooting.

I would post a question on the Headlight Junkies, Aftermarket Lighting Enthusiasts and/or Global Headlight Community groups on facebook. I tried looking for a picture of those headlights with the back bulb cover removed to see how the projector is mounted but couldn't find anything.

The Headlight Junkies group is maintained by The Retrofit Source so its iffy if the admins will approve the post since it's not a Morimoto or one of their subsidiary companies products, if you mention installing a Morimoto projector they'll likely approve it. Also since there are over 50k members you'll have to sift through the BS in your comments. There are some really experienced members that are very helpful, but you also get some riff-raffs.

Aftermarket Lighting Enthusiasts group is the one I'd recommend and it's by hosted by Diode Dynamics. They will approve pretty much any post as long as it is a legit lighting question and there are more professional retrofitters and true enthusiasts on that page that are very helpful.

I went on their site and noticed the projector appears to be a shaft mounted projector. So that is at least compatible with other shaft mounted projectors easily. I cannot confirm that the surround is separate from the bowl, but I would assume (99% confident) it is separate form the bowl as adjusting the headlight would only move the bowl and not all of the internals. This would be the same for the black and chrome "retrofit style" headlight housings. Hope this helps.
