Hey everyone. I just posted a vid showing how to fix 2 simple rattles you may experience as a 2nd Gen Tacoma owner. I'll post more vids here as I experience more rattles, but the first is below:

Hopefully these fixes will help some of you out. Enjoy!

UPDATE: Just reached 1,000 views for the video. Thanks to anyone who checked it out!

I hear you! I have to remind all of my passengers to make sure their seatbelts are straight (not twisted) when they exit my truck, otherwise those damn seatbelts rattle against the plastic. If I don't tell them then the seatbelt is ALWAYS twisted. Frustrating.

I spent yesterday chasing down a flapping sound in my upper HVAC. Finally found it was the stick-on foam inside the vent that came loose. Why is there foam lining the vent tubes?! A 6 year old kid could have got to it easily, but my ham fists had to get creative & separate a joint in the tube & nearly cut my fingers off reaching in. But now it's beautiful silence.

To fix the rear fender liner rattle on my Tacoma, I removed the liners and the brackets that they attach to. Then welded some metric nuts to the backside of the brackets and reinstalled with OEM style body bolts with built-in washers. That is how the fender liners should be retained instead of the plastic push trees that the factory uses.

Wow. You sure went all out to hunt that noise down. Just proves how annoying these things can be. Glad you got it fixed!

This that and the other thing.
yeah I'm on the same page as you with the damn seat belt, I almost want to put a seatbelt clip/hanger on the pillar like they have for the rear seatbelts for when you put the seats down in the double cab. and i may be alone on this one, but when i have the windows down, sometimes my passenger seat shakes like crazy haha

I'm hearing a faint rattle that sounds like it's coming from the base of the windshield toward the middle. Can't tell if it's inside or outside. Anyone else experience this?

If it's a relatively rapid rattle, maybe even more audible on cold mornings, then it might be the top of the head unit type rattle. I can't remember what causes it but people have used foam up under that portion of the dash to shut it up.

Pressing on the middle of the dash might shut the rattle up temporarily if you want to try and diagnose it.

Hmm I do seem to notice it more when it's cold out. Thanks for the info!

For those with a sunroof - my retractable wind deflector would rattle against the body when in the closed or down position. There is a very thin sheet of rubber glued down at the center of the tray where the deflector sits but it's not thick enough to provide space between the deflector and the tray it sits in and it will rattle against the body. My simple solution was to stick 3 of these thin rubber grippers from Lowes right over the existing small sheet of rubber in the center of the deflector tray and the rattle is completely gone.

I just put about an inch of foam tape where it strikes. Can't see it when nobody is sitting there, and when they are I can't see around them anyway. Win win! :bananadance: It's amazing how much it bothered me and how happy I am with the silence.

Good idea! I haven't looked but I wonder if anyone makes an aftermarket clip (like the rear seat) that could be used. It's not too terrible in mine. If the seat belt clip stays flipped down then it usually doesn't rattle of much.
