I was doing some research on Tacomas yesterday and this site came up a lot in the results and had answers I was looking for so it just seemed obvious you MUST be here if you want to know anything about a Tacoma.

My first Tacoma was a 2004 4dr 4x4 V6, i acquired it with 3,200 miles on the odo in 2004.
This past week that Tacoma turned 254,000 miles and I figured it was time to look for a new one. It was an AWESOME truck that only required basic maintenance and always got me through the snow. My only complaint was that it ate 02 sensors like I eat cake.

I had my eye on a 2016 Taco at a dealership I drive past everyday on the way to work. A silver 4x4 4dr V6 for $27k w/22K miles.

Very nice truck, loved the interior, dash was nice, radio was awesome, and then I drove it.
Yuck. The 6sp auto trans just never seemed happy and would constantly change gears. The engine made (to me) unnatural noises and I instantly new this is not my truck. The salesman worked me up a deal incl. an insulting 3K trade in for my truck and that was the icing on the cake. NEXT!

I went home and researched (leading me here) and found the same complaints about the 2016 on here and also confirmed in Consumer Reports that the 2016 drive train is a huge disappointment. I decided to look for a 2015-14.

A quick interwebs search led me to a 2015 4dr 4x4 V6 long bed with 26k miles for $27,888, the cheapest one in a 50 mile radius. It was everything I wanted in a truck so I went to check it out. The test drive went great, they gave me $4500 for my 04 in trade and I drove my new Tacoma home! The only mod will be a bed topper which I have already located and hope to acquire within the week.

I look forward to learning more about these truck and admiring the things others have done with theirs.

Congrats and welcome to TW. You say the topper will be the only mod.... That will change relatively quickly.
