OP: Do you mind saying what you paid for the replacement hood and installation? I'm getting a Sport shortly and have given some thought to the same approach. Not into faux ornaments and other geegaws cluttering up my vehicles. But I'll drive it a little while before making that jump.

Lots of folks like the scoop, so mean no disrespect. It's just a style thing and to each his/her own.

Why pay a body shop.. there are countless people that will trade a plain hood for the scoop. You will probably be able to make a few dollars extra even..

Buy an OR for the same price and better functional geegaws.

which is a more functional geegaw for this particular user: rear locker or hill start assist (if MT)? both geegaws may have value depending on your geegaw needs.

Don't yet have my truck yet (TRD Sport), but I've driven one and am worried that, between the narrow windshield (my last Tacoma was a 2nd Gen, much wider) and the scoop, I'll be a little lacking in some of the forward-down visibility I would like to have. So, say I decide to exchange a scooped hood for a non-scooped hood, net $0. Will it matter in terms of resale value at 6, 8, or 10 years that I did?

That far down the road... mileage and condition will matter the most... I doubt the scoop will make a difference at that point.

Looks better OP. It looks cool from outside the truck, but inside I prefer to not have the scoop as well.

I like the scoop on the non N American models of 2nd gen.

But they are open. Feeding the inner cooler laying on top of the turbocharged diesel.
