Ive looked up that kit and by the looks of it, it looks like it won't but I could be wrong...

 

Yea looks like depends on how far the backing plate can be moved down. Also if he makes the backing plate threaded maybe might not have to remove whole piece ? Maybe can drill the 2 holes and stick say like 2 pieces wire hanger up dash but through 2holes in backing plate and drop it down then remove bottom wire and install bottom bolt then top . I got extra center piece at home and was looking like could work that way.

 

I've got a radio that I'm waiting to install until I get an ETA on this. Looking great. Happy to give you some feedback too if you'd ship one out to CO for this install.

 

I'm really trying to do these 2 at a time to make it worth my while. They are countersunk on both sides so they can be mounted on either side. Maybe have a spare? Give one to a buddy? 2 person group buy lol. I'm not trying to be flippant just trying to keep things simple on my end. FWIW, I have both sides mounted and I find the drivers side to be more useful.

I guess but not by much, I think I paid $1 per set to have them anodized. I think anodizing is money well spent for long term corrosion resistance.

For hardware, Mcmaster has almost anything you can imagine but what you are describing is mcmaster part number 93791A523. I went with stainless socket head screws for corrosion resistance even though I suspect it's overkill. The part I just mentioned is a black stainless screw. I suppose pending enough requests I can / will supply those instead of the normal stainless. I am trying not to create a bunch of different configurations as I will undoubtedly screw things up (pun intended.)

For the backing plate, right now it is in a state of flux, original design cooperated with me but Eddo has requested threaded plates. The set I have here right now that are going out shortly should provide me with some feedback. I am not super stoked on having to use locktite but the threaded plates really need it in my opinion. Might see if I can find a screw with the locking patch already applied to eliminate having to use lock tite.

I'm using double sided tape but if you can assemble them with your method that sounds great. All will have threaded plates from here on out. I am on the fence about material, aluminum is cheaper and faster for me to cut but the threads are not as strong. Are they strong enough? I think they are but I want to stand by my design and keep everyone happy.

Im sure threads should be strong enough.Dont need to make super tight since all its doing is sandwiching the panel
As far as installing my way just was curious if posible. If I did ofder I would try it that way

Since you are doing them as a set you could totally do one black and one clear anodized! Though that might be more than your willing to deal with. Anyone who wants to maintain the silver can deanodize them easily with some greased lightening. I used to deanodize all my RC parts with that stuff.

I understand about selling both to make it easier for you to get it out the door, No problems.

I like the bar screw backing you made for the first post but like I said, your machined beauty and me picking out up couple of split and fender washers and maybe some SS/nylon nuts and I'd be fine!

But, yes there is a BUT, if you could include the black finished screws that would help. There is no way I'd find those at my local Hardware.

I'm sure you can buy a box of 100 and mark them up 200% and we'd still think it'e a good deal at $.50 a piece!

That being said, Mcmaster is your friend. They are not the cheapest but their selection is RIDICULOUS and you can have it next day Admittedly, I am in California and their West Coast distribution hub is in LA so I might just be lucky. I see that you are in Connecticut so I would not be surprised if the Chicago warehouse can provide you with similar service. I routinely get kicked off of their website because I spend too much time perusing what is available and downloading their free CAD files for almost everything they have; apparently they like you to spend money every once in a while in order to use their catalogue and CAD data lol.

 

Would everyone prefer the black finished screws? My biggest concern is providing hardware that is not going to oxidize and look bad. Maintenance-free is a good thing.

Cost difference is insignificant and it's no big deal for me to take the 200 I have here and add them to my hardware rack, they will get used around here. I'd rather make everyone happy than to worry about $20 in hardware that won't be going to waste no matter what I end up doing with them.

 

Yeah, but what are they going to charge me to ship 4 screws compared to what they charge you for a box?
I haven't looked at their site but I know of them.
I don't know how they price items.
My experiencing these places don't like ones, twos, but I could be behind the times.

It makes no difference to me what color the screws are. I'm sure once they're installed I'll pay little to no attention to them.

 

Touche', my quasi-educated guess is that you'd be on the hook for the $9 for qty 50 (and you'd be stuck with an extra 46) plus tax and $15 worth of shipping lol. I'll take care of ya...

I'd prefer black but it's not a make or break. Whatever's easiest on you really. These look great and at an awesome price point! Can't wait to get my hands on them

 

Not a peep out of me no matter what color comes in the mail, but if you have a choice and it's all the same cost, might as well go black to match the anodizing and the a/c panel.
