hey man, please cut your writing into paragraphs, just break it up somehow. many of us read the forum from a phone like me, so I literally cannot read your posts by phone so i have to skip them. I'd rather read your posts, not skip them.

I grabbed Amsoil for my diffs and transmission (to change this Sunday pending weather, hopefully with a blackstone analysis on the existing fluids assuming their sample containers ever arrive); is there something I'm missing as to why everyone goes Redline?

I don't want to go down the rabbit hole of the BITOG forums again, but from my research, Redline seems to perform well but has a shorter lifespan.

i can't say exactly why, but i would definitely put my trust in Amsoil... or Redline. i used Amsoil exclusively in my last VW and i totaled it with a perfect service record -- as in zero drivetrain problems -- in 136,000 miles. it's top stuff no doubt.

@St.Germain good to hear! It ought to be for what it costs lol. That said I'm still saving 50% doing it myself vs paying a shop or dealer for the labor + OEM fluids (not to mention the piece of mind).

Eh, I live in RB, so if you went to Escondido I'm sure you aren't too far away. I don't know how urgently you are looking to buy but if you seriously can't find one to test drive (I know your pain, i had to buy sight unseen in Arizona), I'd let you take mine for a spin. Just message me and we can set something up. My only request is that you actually do know how to somewhat drive a manual transmission (I'm no expert) and that you promise not to money shift my truck.

I could also happily point out common quirks with the truck or just stay silent and let you see if you even notice them.

I've run Redline or Amsoil in the last few rides I've owned. Both are fantastic products.

Sorry I never get the clunk in first as you do but do get the occasional clunk in other gears when my shifting and clutch use is sloppy. Dannyblues

That's funny. My salesman tried to refuse a sale of a manual to a guy who could not learn how to use it. I think he had a friend drive it home for him after he bought it anyway. Soon after the salesman saw that truck being towed by a wrecker to the body shop. I haven't heard three on the tree since the 1950's. Thank God I've never had to drive twin sticks but I've heard of old timers with old Mack dump trucks that had to. Dannyblues

Dood...first and foremost KEEP POSTING! You know sh!t...I want to hear what you know

Second...you typed all that on an iPhone? Bravo *respectful slow golf clap. You are way more patient than I.

Lastly...the guys are right...the paragraph (and a little brevity) would very much enhance your posts.

P.S. Thanks for the writeup on the floating gears...I put many miles on that way, just never heard it termed as such!

I've floated gears a few times in my 16 now that I have learned the rpms. Secret to floating gears is to just lightly put pressure into the next gear. When it is ready it will fall into place. Be patient. If you force it she will let you know you fucked up.

I once broke the clutch linkage in my 1970 chevy. Was about 20 miles from home in the Reno area. I had to drive it all the way home in traffic with no clutch. Besides hitting 3 stop lights red I did not miss a shift. Red lights however required me to put it in first and start moving with the starter! Wasn't pretty but it got me home!
